I'm looking for comments and advice on the Glock 36. I have other Glocks and am wondering if this model is much more concealable than my G30, G19, G23, etc?

(Does the floorplate of the mag pinch your fingers?)

Thanks,
Steve

I carry a 36 from time to time. What I like about it most is that it feels more thin than the other Glocks you mentioned. I usually carry it IWB. I have not carried a Glock 30, but I have carried a mid sized Glock 32 and I feel the 36 is the most comfortable.

I have not had any problems w/the mags pinching my fingers.

Hope this helps.

I shot one of the G36s when they first hit the market. I liked it! I like the size and the slimness also. I shot a ragged hole with it at 7 yds.. Recoil was like that of a G23. I don't know why I haven't purchased one but I think it will be my next purchase. I think it would be a great concealed carry gun.

I had been waiting for the new G37 to appear but it has proven a disappointment and is not what they represented in their advertising and promotion. Instead of being the slim gun they had protrayed it to be they merely grafted a G21 slide to a G22 frame.

I own two Glocks: a 36 and 23C. Both have all the virtues (e. g., ruggedness, reliability, durability, and design simplicity) and all the deficiencies (e. g., “squishy†trigger/striker and -- in my hands -- only defensive-grade accuracy) that I find to be common among all Glocks.

Now, this said, the G36 is small and concealable; I even carry it in an ankle holster where, practically speaking, it is invisible. Further, 6+1 of .45 ACP +P (in any top-rated JHP) is a fine defensive package for most circumstances.

If -- and I cannot -- I could consistently achieve the same levels of “target grade†accuracy from my G36 that I do with all other top-quality autoloaders and revolvers, the G36 would certainly be my daily carry weapon. The problem -- and it is significant -- is I simply cannot achieve excellent accuracy with any Glock, although I recognize that many others can.

To summarize, if: (1) you like Glocks and (2) you want a small, effective and concealable carry weapon, then the G36 certainly should be on your “short list†for evaluation.

Regards to all -- Roy

Steve,

Have been CCW'ing a 36 for a year and a half. Previously had both a 21 and a 30. The 36 is so much better than the 30 that got rid of it. Still use the 21 for cold weather CCW. 36 has proven very managable with Ranger T Series 230 gr. +P in practice. Have large hands and the 36 actually fits better than either the 21 or 30. Only complaint is that the gun points high on the draw if have been shooting a 1911 or G34 in IDPA & practice.

Do not get pinched during firing or on reloads at speed in drills, however have "trained" strong hand little finger to stay out of the way.

Lou Alessi's "hardshell Talon+" has proved perfect as an IWB, otherwise use Cen-Dex Taylor "Nighhawk" OWB under a jacket.

Well, I'll post the dissenting opinion.... I did find the G36 to pinch my little finger between the mag & magwell while shooting. 50 rounds downrange and I had a very substancial blood blister. It made it very uncomfortable for me to shoot.

Otherwise, it seems like a great compact gun... Just not for me.

i frequently carry a Glock 36, IWB or sometimes in a kydex paddle holster (very comfortable), no pinching, very reliable defensive weapon.

The stock floorplate on the G30 magazine ALWAYS pinches my little finger. Changed to Pearce floorplates...problem solved.

The G36 stock floorplate NEVER pinches my finger. Dunno why, but it never happens. It's just as well, since Pearce Grip doesn't make a standard replacement floorplate for the G36, just their "+1" floorplate, which works fine, doesn't pinch, but protrudes lower than the stock item. Not much of a problem, but I carry one on my spare mag more than on the in-gun mag, just to enhance concealability.

While the numeric measurement differences between the G30 and G36 sound trivial, the G36 FEELS much more comfortable in the hand to me, since the G36 grip approximates that of the 1911 much more closely than any other Glock, and the thinner G36 is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter and "flatter" feeling than the G30 when carried in a holster, especially an IWB holster.

I've carried and shot G30s and 1911s for years, but I gotta give credit to the G36 as a CCW gun; if you're commited to the .45ACP, you get 6 rounds in the mag with one in the chamber in a package weighing just under 28 oz, while the very same capacity (6 plus 1) in a compact 1911 design like my Les Baer Stinger is about 40oz!
Again, some might say that a 12 oz weight difference isn't much, but it feels like a BIG difference to me, especially when carrying all day.

The G36 has somewhat more "felt recoil" than the G30, not surprisingly, but it's no problem. Much more surprising to me is how close the "felt recoil" of the 28 oz. G36 is to that of the 40 oz. Stinger!

I like my G36. There are quite a few vocal G30 owners who are highly critical of the G36 over at Glock Talk (they don't own one, of course), but I find it an excellent gun for CCW, and better in this role than the G30, IMNSHO, due to its compactness and lighter weight.

Best.

I completely agree! I carry a G36 IWB everyday in a kydex holster. It even feels better than my G19.
