Well folks, the wife and I are fixing to head over to FL for the week before Christmas. (I figure that since the good people of the Sunshine State were kind enough to give me a concealed carry permit, I should spend some of my vacation dollars there.) We'll be staying at the Loew's on the beach, and we won't have a car.

But the city of Miami Beach is pretty teensy. While my wife is shopping up in Bal Harbor, is there anything fun and gun-related to do around Miami Beach? Any (presumably indoor) ranges or gun shops worth a visit?

I'll be a little surprised if the answer is yes, this being the Sixth Borough of NYC and all, but please let me know. I'll be offline late Saturday - thanks!

yeah, now that you mention it, i read today that their police dept got a 30' gunboat... maybe they're giving tours :)

You're kidding, right? If you aren't gay, or 21 and determined to get alcohol poisoning, or hell bent on giving yourself skin cancer, there's nothing to do there. Oh yeah, shopping and eating too I guess.

Firearms related activities in Miami Beach

There's usually some shooting going on at night--- in certain neighborhoods of course.

Go west oldfart go west. Get to the Glades, Naples, Ft. Myers, Venice, Boca, and Sarasota to find the real Florida.

to be honest, there is not a lot to do, gunwise in Miami. There are very few shops, and even fewer places to shoot.
One word about Miami Beach, particularly South Beach. Watch your six. There is quite a bit of violent crime. Just stay on Collins Ave, and off the side streets between 1st and 16th streets.
oh, and welcome to the 'hood :)

I once went out to where the yachts and all were ...honest I was looking real hard to see if any of the ladies were carrying concealed...them Miami gals are really good at concealing CCW's :Dshe wore a itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini

Actually the scenery is GREAT on South Beach. :D The sun and beach are nice too. Actually one of my favorite things to do is enjoy a nice (albeit relatively expensive) dinner at one of the sidewalk restaurants and watch the scenery walk by. It is great! ( There are a number of modeling agencies on SoBe.) The moon over the ocean as seen on MiaBeach is super. Be packing if you chose to stroll the beach at waters edge at night with your significant other. People have been mugged on the beach. By the way, if you don't drink the restaurants are OK for CCW. Just stay out of the bar.

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of gunny things to do. The only gun show this weekend is in West Palm Beach. None of the stores are really worth going to. The closest range to you is west of the airport. They get REALLLLLLLLLY anal about gun handling there.

Nothing at all to do in Miami Beach regarding firearms. Don't believe the other posters about the violent crime on the South Beach. I go down there 3 times a month because I have people down there and I can tell you the rich/thug ratio is like 100/1. Only time they ever have heard of violence down there is during the Source Awards. Some of the best food in South Florida can be found there if you are into the side walk pizza and burrito places. Some of the most beautiful women in the world also if you like the skinny/model look. South Florida in general sucks for shooting activities although we do have some nice gun shows here.

Well, the trip was wonderful, and I found SoBe to be very carry-friendly. There were a couple of times that I was glad it was, but only a couple.

Only bummer is that Delta lost my luggage . . . including my Glock. :scrutiny: Hopefully they'll straighten it out today.

Miami, eh? If you're physically disabled or over the age of 90, you'll need to watch out for police officers with tasers.

Combat-wombat, one of the free papers had a front-page article on the cops' new lethal force policy, headlined "We won't kill you," or something like that. :)

Cookhj, we stayed at the Loew's, and would recommend it heartily.

My lovely wife, by the way, has just gotten back from the airport, where she retreived my gun and bags. After 24 hours, she'd gotten sick of seeing me sit around morose, waiting for the incompetents at Delta to call and say when they were going to deliver the bags. The only telephone line to Delta was busy ALL DAY, and it was impossible to get any info beyond the "we'll deliver it and call first" that they had told me the night before. So, after our Christmas Eve dinner and stroll among the farolitos of Old Town, my wife said, "You wait here; I'll drive to the airport and figure out what's going on." (By this point, I was too irritated to talk to a Delta employee, for fear of going ballistic.) She came back with the bags, my gun, AND low-carb ice cream for me! :)

She's a keeper! :D Merry Christmas, everybody!

the loews is a nice hotel too. i haven't stayed there, but i might the next time i go down to south beach. if you aren't already, you should join the loews first club so you can get free room upgrades and stuff. and it's free to join.
