Hey All,

There is an Appleseed in Myakka City, FL, near Sarasota, on February 2-3.

http://www.appleseedinfo.org

Kids under 21 and Military shoot FREE.

This looks to be a great range to shoot and Appleseed shoots are two full days of rifle instruction and "rifleman heritage" building.

Learn what it take to make hit out to 500 yards, with your rifle, lots of fun.

That's just up the road from me.

But I highly doubt I'll be taking my model 94 out to 500 yards. I think 30-30 rounds fall out of the sky at 300.

I wonder if I can scrape up an AR by this weekend...

This first shoot at Manatee will be almost all 25 meter, with reduced size targets to simulate 100-500 yards.

There may be some 200 yard shooting available, but that can not be determined until the weekend of the shoot.

With a good turn out, we hope to have more acutal distance shooting at this location at the future events.

22s are very welcome, if that suits you.

Come out and have fun.

any more information out there about this? my rifle options would be a single shot .22 or an AK. I'm interested, Myakka City isn't that far from me... I'm under 21, so I can get in free, but do I need anyone over 21 to come with me? can I go for just part of the day sunday? pay the the door?

I would recommend that you take the AK if you can, it will better fit the course of fire for this event. The single shot, while still allowing you to gain valuable skills, will make the full utilization of this course very difficult.

You are under 21 and the course is free to you. You do not need anyone over 21, however, if under 18, you will need an adult with you.

If you are going to attend, PLEASE still register on the web site....This will really help us to better plan resources.

This is a GREAT opportunity to receive valuable instruction for FREE.....difficult to image what might be going on this weekend that would keep a "red blooded American" from jumping through whatever hoops might stand in the way for FREE, quality rifle instruction:scrutiny:

You will NOT be allowed to walk up to the event in mid-stream....once the day has started. We have safety briefings at the start of each day and you must attend them to participate in the days events. And you must still complete liability waivers prior to participating.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU ATTEND BOTH DAYS, IF ONLY ONE, THEN SATURDAY. To attend only Sunday, which is "allowed" is to miss the bulk of the course material and our experience is that "Sunday only' folks really miss the real value of the course.

I hope that answers your questions, and feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

funfaler, you're simulating 500 yards?

Did you hear about the new facility that is being looked at for an area just south of Myaka City. It is a government/police training facility and will have 1000 yard ranges.

I'm not sure of the completion date, but it's something to keep in mind for the Florida area for future events once it's done.

I can't scrape up an AR for this event, but I'll definately be there for the next event.

The bulk of the Appleseed instruction takes place at 25 meters, with reduced size targets to simulate 100-500 yards.

Manatee Gun and Archery Club has a range out to 500+ yards and we hope to work that into future Appleseed Shoots, but this Feb 2-3 Appleseed is our first there.

We are always looking for places to hold Appleseed Shoots, but I must admit, as nice and helpful as the Manatee folks have been, I hope to be having many more Appleseeds at this location in the future, in the neighborhood of 4-6 a year, eventually.

Slayer:
where can I get any info on that mabe built range?

It was in the local paper, I'll dig through the archives and see if I can find it. It's going to be a police/government training center, but I'm not sure if it would be open to the public.
