I have a DPMS pattern lower and an aftermarket upper. Everything went together fine but when I chamber a round it does not extract . Trying to hand mount a round on the bolt face is extremely difficult. Have not shot it. I think the extractor is not grooved wide enough for the base of the cartridge. Has anyone run into this?? Can I just replace the Bolt? If I do Do I have to Head-space the new bolt??

Have you checked the headspace with the go/nogo gauges?

With the bolt out see if one can tuck under the extractor? Yes the bolt can just be replaced but be aware that there is a tolerance of about 0.003". Some bolts will not work with some barrels depending on how the headspace was set at the factory.

If the extractor proves to be the problem it is lots less money to replace that than an entire bolt. And yes, a new bolt would need to be checked for correct headspace.

Thanks or the information. I was overthinking things again...Tried to tuck under the extractor and it was a no.

As noted above, check headspace. Remove the extractor to do this and do not let the action spring drive the bolt home on the gages. Remove the upper, pull the charging handle to open the bolt far enough to insert a gage, then close the bolt with finger pressure. If that proves to be correct then other measures are required. You may well have an improperly machined bolt.
