Hey Guys,
Here’s the plan.
I have an Armalite AR10A4 Flattop carbine. The only things I have done to it so far are to add an Ambi safety *(I am left handed) and ACOG type optic.
I want to add a flash hider, a collapsible stock, a different grip, ambi Mag release and maybe a set of backup sights.
I thought about just getting the birdcage from Armalite, but are there any that are that much better for the price or slightly more? I will be getting the bayonet mount for it too for S&G and GP.
For the collapsible stock, Armalite has one, and I saw the setup that Zak Smith did with the Magpul on an AR10, which was really sweet. Unfortunately it costs aprox 3x as much. IS it really worth the extra cost? Or are their any others? A possible consideration for this. I am thinking about eventually getting the AR10T Ultra upper for it so you can have the best of both carbine and long-range with a quick switch. Will that work, or will the collapsible stock cause problems?
For the new grip, every replaceable grip I have seen for an AR10 is Right hand only. Ideally, I would like an Ambi. Are there any or will a standard AR15 grip work without any problems?
Is there an AR10 ambi mag release? Will an AR15 work? I am thinking not because of with.
Finally, What backups would you recommend? Thinking flip down, and while I have seen other threads, I haven't seen anything definite.

On a slightly different note, I also have an AR15A4 with an Eotec. Already have a collapsible on it, but I do want a Flash suppressor, ambi mag release and back ups. For $5 for an AR15 birdcage, is there anything that much better. Is there a good ambi mag release that is not $100, or is that a good price? Also, how do the Israeli Orlite Magazines work for people, good, bad, indifferent, and should I go new or used with any Mags.
Thanks for the Help

VLTOR makes a receiver extension for the AR-10, I have one and when I get the other parts (stock and buffer) I intend to mount it on my 20" A4.

I would stick with the stock controls and grip, they are still better left handed than any aftermarket stuff in my experience. YMMV, of course.

Orlite magazines are good to avoid, the standard issue aluminium magazine works fine for the AR-15.

For a backup iron sight you need to consider what else is on the rail and will it clear. I ended up going with a ARMS #40L because everything else available at the time was too high folded to allow my scope to clear.

Hope that helps.

VLTOR definantly looks better than the stock collapsible.
I already changed the safeties, and the grip is a little short for me, which was why I was planning on getting a longer one. My trigger finger has to go over the safety, or I am at the very end of the grip. I have the Rite-pull on my 15, and that helps out a lot. Not sure what you mean about the rest.
Thanks for the tip on the Orlites, I checked later, and saw I still have a bunch of SI aluminum, used though.
Thanks for the input
