AR-15 Gas Issues! Attention AR Docs!

Update!

I caved in and bought a SLR adjustable gas block. I didnt want one. But all problems are solved. Tamed recoil, ejects 4 o clock unsuppressed, 230 suppressed. Ejects about 6 feet while standing.

It's a damn shame, $400+ barrel with a $50 trip back to manufacturer needs a $100 gas block to function properly.

After this, fitment issues on the lower (bolt release milling and trigger guard pin hole placement) and being told all was normal, I believe I am done with Noveske and cannot recommend them.

During this time I bought a 18" rifle length gas Ranier Arms Mountain Series upper. Same double chrome lined barrel. Upper, pinned gas block, barrel, gas tube...$299 ($100 less than Noveske barrel) perfect gas volume, accurate. Cant speak high enough for this upper

i had this exact issue with a Bushmaster (pre remington) barrel. It was a defective A2 gas block. A new one fixed the problem, and doubled the felt recoil, and was a pain in the ass to replace, because of the pins. Was this a Noveske gas block?

Yes Noveske gas block...also tried the Geissele gas block.

Suppressed if the brass hit the deflector just right, I could sometimes achieve 11 o clock ejection over the top of the barrel.

Major bummer. Sorry to hear.

You’re saying you sent it back to noveske and they didn’t fix it? Seems like they could have detected and resolved a bad gas block quickly.

My noveske were all made long before he passed away but they exceeded my high expectations.

Sent the entire upper to them. They said it was Ranier's BCG and they replaced the gas key. Dont know how I feel about them performing warranty work on another company's part.

Gas block was fine...the gas port in the barrel was too large.

I've got 2 of the SLR Sentry Gas Blocks in titanium. They function flawlessly as you've found out and are a breeze to maintain. They've now become the standard for my builds.

My shorty AR was doing this and new mags didn’t help much. I ended up going with a Heavy H2 Buffer and it worked. Brass lands right beside the table now. Slowed it up a lot.

I went to a Geissele super 42 (10%-15% stronger) in H3 configuration and it still wasnt enough. At that point I decided it was time to address the issue as symptoms were too great.

One of the reasons I like to build my own ARs is to avoid the obvious problems the Op is having. You can make sure the gas port in the gas block is alined and that the tube is clear and properly aligned. No one cares about the details like we do on our own personal gun builds. When someone is building dozens of AARs a day who knows if they check and double check small items.
The minute we assume something is OK and that it's not important in the build is when we run into trouble. Good luck to the Op. Never assume what others have done is correct until you check it out yourself.

OP here...I did build it and all was aligned properly. Gas tattoo was perfectly centered around port.

Gas port was too large. Was trying to avoid the extra parts/point of failure of adjustable gas block, but in this case it was unavoidable.

I had some similar problems with a PSA, BCG. turns out the bolt carrier was too tight, Bolt hung up in carrier. Using different bolts did not help. Finally got a new complete BCG form BCM. Works great now.
