Can anyone recommend an AR-15 gunsmith in Houston? I want to convert the fixed stock on my carbine to an M4 collapsible stock. I know it is not hard to do, but the tools I'd need to do it will probably cost more than a gunsmith.

Brownell's has some good videos

I watched the video. I know that I could do it. But I need to buy a vise (the one I use for my handguns is too small), the AR-15 tool, and probably the holder Brownell's sells for the receiver. I think a gunsmith would be cheaper, and I try to avoid buying tools I'm unlikely to use again.

I would think any average smith could handle this.
I tend to agree, but I'd prefer someone with AR experience. Also, I'd still need a recommendation, as the last gunsmith I used retired.

South Texas armory, ask them, or if they are far away, ask andy or the other dude ( can't ever remember his name!) for someone closer to you...

proly the best gunsmith in Texas is Lucario gunworks, up off 45n, and west mount houston. However i don't know if he does ar work, he has a complete shop, and all the tooling you will ever see, but I know he does old school wood, and boltie type work, and he does work for the big box stores, and gunshops in the Houston area; I am not sure if he does AR work though...

there's the arms room just south of houston in leauge city. the owner of the arms room also owns Holland Gun Works, a custom AR-15 manufacturer located in League City, TX.
he usually keeps a good supply of his ar's in stock at the arms room & has a gunsmith on site to handle any repairs.

well, an AR multi tool can be had for 20-30 bux with shipping online. And you can use the tool should the need arises for you to change the stock again.

edit: i don't think you'll need a vise for this. Even if you do, a $20 vise from Lowe's would probably work.
