Are the factory standard handguards capable of supporting/tolerating a bipod under normal shooting conditions without cracking or breaking out? I'm leaning towards installing a QD stud, rather than the quad rails. I'm not planning on attaching or mounting any other accessories. All opinions and experiences would be appreciated.

sure. Factory HG's will handle a bipod just fine.

Dont spent money on railed HG's unless you need to or want to.

Thanks Highorder. I'll probably back the stud with a rectangular piece of 1/8" aluminum to spread out the contact surface just in case.

I've done exactly want you are looking at, works great. No real noticeable chance in POI for what I was doing at the time, think ranch rifle.

Thanks Redneckdan. Glad to hear it's worked for someone. When I took the lower handguard off just now, I found out how beefy it is - there are reinforcement ribs every 3/8" for the full length of the handguard. Have to bush the existing hole though as the holes in the glazier are too large and they're so close together that there's no room to drill a new hole the correct size.

I'm thinking of putting a Harris bipod on my RR M4, and was thinking about getting the hand guard adaptor, but the bayonet adaptor rang my bell. Where is this available from? I think I would prefer mounting the bipod there as opposed to the handguard.
