So I am going to buy my first AR15, and the one accessory that I know I want is a brass catcher. this will have a full length picatinny rail, so that seems like the obvious spot to mount it. I will be transplanting a few scopes from my other rifles unless the first one (that is not mounter to a gun), a 2-7 Leopold works out perfectly. anyway, there is a plethora of brass catchers out there, and i would really not rather have several of them laying in a box because it does not work correctly, or are so complicated to use, i just cut the bottom out of it from pure frustration.

I have a couple of the Caldwell "net" type. They have a small piece that mounts on the rail and the catcher part just slides on and off. Works really well, even if youre moving around while youre shooting.

Not sure if it will work with a scope, or if the clearance is there, you may want to consider that, but it works well with my red dots.

This is what they look like. I dont remember them being this expensive, but its been a while since I bought them.....

I have used these for years. https://www.tacticalbrassrecovery.com Made in USA, veteran owned. It is pricey but it is extremely good kit. They stand behind their products.

Mine stays on my rifle all the time except during cleaning. It collapses down for transport, fold out for work. I hunt with mine. No doubt it has paid for itself countless times over.

If you don't shoot a lot, it won't be worth it. If you shoot a lot, it will be well worth it.

THis one!

I have a couple of Caldwell brass catchers. I have the type that has a strap and the type that mounts directly to the rail. The rail mount catchers will not work with scoped rifles or at least any of mine. I use the ones held on by a strap for my scoped rifles and my A1/A2 uppers. They both work but the rail mount is better in that it stays in place.

I have used the one strap Caldwell, the two strap Caldwell, and, thanks to someone in a previous AR brass catcher thread, I now have the Brass Goat. It is, hands down, the best of the bunch and has never missed an empty. I gave the Caldwells away.

I have a couple of the Caldwells, they work really well. I bought extra mounts and just leave them on the pic rails so I don't have to move them back and forth.

That's been my experience too.

brass goat on my new AR i built this summer.
The Brass Goat is a terrific solution, but one that sadly only works on USGI style lowers at present. LFARs still gotta use something else, as do billet/polymer lowers.

The minute that they bring their LFAR solution to market - I'm getting one. But that still leaves my KP15 out in the cold.

i may be spacing out or something but what does LFAR stand for?

Large Format AR - seems to be the new hip way to say LR308/AR10.

My 22-250 / 257 Roberts / 308 / 358 Win builds need a Brass Goat.

If you have a std. lower, the Brass Goat is great and doesn’t use any upper rail space, just snaps right on. And without the catch box makes a nice shell deflector. Mine fits Rock River, PSA, and Anderson lowers. And handy to just remove the catch box like a mag, empty it and pop it back in and keep going.

If that doesn’t work for you, the 3bucc is also nice. The mount takes up two slots on the upper receiver but the bag fits securely but pops right off, easy to remove & remount. Nice heavy duty bag too. Opens up like a coin purse to empty or just pop the bag off. But extra mounts for the 3bucc are $17 a pop so pricey to set up for multiple rifles or uppers.

Between the two, my brass goat gets used more.
