I have a desire to enter a 3 gun match using a AR15 16" carbine but am wondering about what scope to mount. I prefer some kind of magnification with a reticle and not a red dot so I have been looking at the Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5 - 6 x42 scope which has a 30mm tube.

Question is: is that too much scope for a carbine or should I stay with the 32 & 36 mm objectives with a 1" tube? Also, if I go with a 1.75 or 2.5 power setting on the low side as in some of the Leupolds, does that eliminate shooting with both eyes open?

Any advice from you 3 gun guys out there is appreciated.

I think the scope you want to use will be just fine.
I run a 1-4 Leoupold on mine, and usually have it at about 2 power anyway.
The "pros" I've talked to, usually keep a higher power scope, in mounts with them to switch to for the really long range stuff, if needed.
