I found a local deal on a used Glock 27 and was just wondering if I need to make sure whether or not it's 3rd Gen. The online info I found seems to suggest that only some of the earlier models exist in pre-3rd gen versions, but I wanted to be sure this is the case. Here's a link to the picture of the gun in case it matters:

Thanks for any info on this.

IMO the term "____ generation" does not really apply to these. AFAIK the subcompacts have always been made in their current configuration, i.e., finger-grooved/frontstraps and no rails.

BTW, apparently to view attachments on that forum you have to be a member.

Thanks for the reply, and for the heads-up about viewing the pic. I'll see if I can upload it here:

One other question. What does a new Glock come with, so I can find out if anything is missing? I know it should come with manual, box. What about the grip extender? Does that usually come with the 27, or is it an after-market item? Also, it should come with 2 magazines, right? This one only comes with 1. Anything else I should ask about?

two magazines, a mag loader that is very helpful with those stubby .40 mags, a plastic cleaning rod that has a slot for a patch and a female threaded part on the end for a nylon cleaning brush. Lots of paperwork, I believe a trigger lock comes with it too.

Nothing irreplaceable, or even particularly useful to someone who already owns guns and has cleaning supplies. Never hurts to add another to the kit though.

If you're getting a good deal on it and it only has one magazine, I would say "so be it", they are pretty reasonably priced for pistol magazines. Magazine extenders are not a part that come with them, but they are available both OEM and after-market. I prefer shooting the 27 without magazine extenders, I shoot much better without them, the way the gun was designed to be fired.

I do really like the GAP floorplate, but that is just a spur that kind of hooks under your ring finger, not a magazine extension. They are at Concealablecontrol.com I believe.

Oh and these pistols shoot very well, much better than you would expect by looking at them.

Thanks for the great info. It does seem like a good deal, $400 for the gun (fewer than 100 rounds through it) with 1 mag. Don't know what else it comes with, but I'll be calling the seller soon. Anything to look out for, like police surplus sell-offs or anything else? I've seen some ads for these that say "this was not a police sell-off" or something.

Some of the early ones don't have checkering on the front strap, I had one for a while before I sold it.

Many Glock guys (not Glock Inc.) at Glocktalk would actually say the Glock 27 (and 26, early 29 and 30's) is a 2.5 Generation.

Finger grip but no accessory rail.

Sort of a transition frame.

Until the 4th Generation Glock was actually acknowledged by Glock -by putting it on the gun- they were not using the "generational" numbers or era's like the Glock user crowd was.

Glock added accessory rails to the 29 and 30 but not the sub compacts. And there were no pure second generation 26/27 models w/o finger grips.

Yep, as mentioned I've heard the early models referred to as Gen 2.5, with smooth figure grips, old slide finish. Also, if you look at the earlier models you'll notice that the slide rails were larger. Otherwise I think they are pretty much the same.
