I was at a show today, and saw them for the second time. They feel and look GREAT! External extractor, all the bells and whistles, great fit and finish, and a very nice trigger. So...

What is the issue with these $320 45s?

I've the older model with internal extractor. Very happy with it. I started a thread about it when I got it: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=113465&highlight=Armscor

To me the only downside is the external extractor. On the plus side, I recently picked up an Armscor widebody 45 (only $380) which is a Para P14 clone except for the external extractor, and so far no problems shooting mostly Wolf and reloads, but barely over 1000 rounds so far. Its a good start, but my "worst" internal extractor (on Charles Daly EMS) went over 6500 rounds before it broke. Being a standard part it was quick, cheap and easy to replace.

I think Armscor went with an extractor design that has worked in other guns. I think they are using extractors from the Tanfoglio EAA/Witness .45ACP guns where I've not heard of any extraction issues.

The down side? Once you start, you won't be able to stop!

I just got my Rock Island Armory 1911 today. (Made by the same folks in the Philippines). It's a great pistol. It shot 100 rounds flawlessly out of the box with more accuracy than I'm capable of.

The other down side is that for only $320, you'll be tempted to "customize" it. I've already installed a competition hammer, trigger, Wilson Combat beavertail and the new sights will go on tomorrow. Still, I'm probably still under $450 -- and I'm having fun. Here's my gun as it stands right now:

The Armscor brands have a pretty loyal following. Most of the people who put them down have never owned or fired one. Check out some of the threads on the other forums (M1911 Org, 1911 Forum) to see what they have to say.

Then be prepared to pick one up and have some fun!

Jim
