Making some changes to an older Model 10-6 S & W -

Shortened the Barrel ( Heavy Barrel Model, ) and brooding on how I can go about attaching a new front Sight.

Any ideas for me?

I want to have a clean simple appearence there...so, cross-dovetailing would be too 'busy'...

Bevel and have some 'Tig' it ?

Thanks,

Parallel dovetail? The sight could cover the slot and it would be easier to change if the mood hit rather than welding.

I had a similar problem when I did a SBR 10/22 I just machined it to fit the barrel and TIG welded it on.

Front sights & ramps have traditionally been sweated on with silver solder since there were sights.

Well...hmmm...I'll try an experiment then of Silver Soldering a trial Sight onto the cut-off nub of the Barrel...ideally though, I'd like to have a Milled Slot a little ways back, a Half-Moon shaped bottom Slot, which a new, same top-shape sight can fit into, to then be Silver Soldered in place. So the Sight sits about an eighth of an inch back from the Muzzle.

I'll see if I can find a Machinist around here to Mill the Slot...

If you are real good, and real careful:

You can cut the 1/2 moon slot with a Dremel cut-off wheel stack.

Might want to practice on a piece of round bar stock first.
