SIG SAUER, Inc. has initiated a Mandatory Safety Upgrade pertaining to our new Model P238™ pistols. We have determined that a small number of P238 pistols may have safety levers that are not manufactured to factory specifications. Under certain conditions, it may be possible for the lever not to be completely engaged in the safe position. In this condition, the gun will not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, when the safety lever is moved to the off position, the hammer may fall, with the remote possibility that the gun could fire unintentionally, thus creating a risk of injury or death.

That's nice. I posted this 20 minutes before you, but mine gets locked after the mod deleted the link to the letter I had. If you examine the thread's history, you can clearly see that he deleted it. Anyhow, this is my run in with this whole issue.

I received a notice for a certified letter. I went and picked it up this morning, thinking it was something from the IRS or something similarly important, but it was just a letter from Sig Sauer. Notifying me that a "MANDATORY SAFETY UPGRADE" was needed on my pistol because the gun MIGHT go off if you turn the safety off. Sort of IMPORTANT.

I called them up because I've had my pistol there for about two weeks now. The mainspring jumped the recoil guide rod, jamming the pistol. I called about a couple of weeks ago, and they sent me a new spring. I put that one in, and the same thing happened. I shipped it off to them, and calling for a status check on Thursday, I was told that it was finished, and that they had replaced the mainspring. I told them that the mainspring had been replaced previously. They said, "Well, that's what I'm reading here". When I tried to pitch a fit, they just said, "I can only read what they wrote about it." Great.

So I called them up an hour ago about this MANDATORY SAFETY UPGRADE and I said, "Hey, what's the deal with this recall?" He said, "It's not a recall sir, it's a mandatory safety upgrade because..." and I cut him off, saying, "the damn thing might go off if I turn the safety off?"

"Yes."

"Sounds like a recall to me."

If you have a P238, SN DA000501 - DA003216 you need to send it back. Call up "customer service" and see what bored sounding rep you get.

Anyways, I'm pretty steamed about all of this. They said they're going to ship it out "in a few days". I think I'm going to just sell it without even testing. I paid a premium for a pistol that is totally messed up. My other Sig Sauer adventure, a Mosquito, was a giant POS. I think I'm going to find another brand to buy from now on. Like Smith and Wesson.

Colt just did something similar and turned them around in less than a week. Mine doesn't do that but it's not that big of a deal to have them ship it on their dime.

With the Colt Mustang? Is there something wrong with this design?

No Colt is on the safety of the new Agent and recoil set up on some Defenders. They haven't made the mustang in years. I haven't sent my Colt in yet as I was about to fit a ambi safety anyway to my agent.

Savage Sig: Don't forget that S&W is currently involved in a massive recall of its PPK and PPK/S guns, produced in Houlton. The S&W boys changed the internals in a redesign and, you got it, the safety is no good and could cause misadventure and who knows what else? Sad to say, not many manufacturers out there can be totally trusted 100% of the time.

I paid a premium for a pistol that is totally messed up.

That happens when you volunteer to test a newly released pistol that hasn't been proven yet Don't be mad just because you chose to work out the bugs for Sig rather than letting other people do it.

My Ruger LCP got recalled for a "safety reason" as well. I wasn't mad at all when I found out because I knew it was prone to problems being a brand new design and all(hush you Kel-Tec fanboys!). Besides that fact, it only cost me $300 and Ruger customer service was outstanding. I got an extra magazine out of it anyways

All I'm saying is don't be surprised when things like this happen. Just be thankful that the gun didn't malfunction and hurt you or anyone around you.

When a company recalls a product on it's own to make sure no one can possibly be hurt by something they did, it's a good thing. Things can and do go wrong with the best of companies, it's how they handle it that counts. IMO Sig is handling this correctly and should be praised, not condemned...

SavageSig, it is easy to THINK you've posted a link, but miss doing so. The history of that other thread has been reviewed, and moderator rbernie has clearly stated: He did not delete any link you posted. You've had your say, twice now. If you simply want to slam SiG products, you may start your own thread elsewhere.

We'll leave this thread as a "sticky," floated at the top of the page, for a time. It serves its purpose as-is, and additional entries would probably contribute nothing.
