Hodgdon lists Autocomp loads for .357 magnum for 158 gr bullets in handguns, but not for rifles. I realize that the handgun load will work in both, but is there something about the length of a rifle barrel that makes it inappropriate for that use? The barrel length listed for handguns is 10 inches, so there couldn’t be that much difference between that and a lever gun.

What Walkalong said!

I have some MBC 158 gr. loaded up with Autocomp that I had been shooting in a revolver. Some that I have left, I plan on using up in a 357 rifle. I don't see where it should be a problem. I have already shot rifle loads using Titegroup and HP-38. Good 50 yd. target loads. :)

Thanks guys. I was just wondering why some loads show up in both handgun and rifle, and others like Autocomp are limited to handgun. I guess that’s just a choice they made when publishing data.

They may figure most folks would want better velocity from the long carbine barrel, so show the slower powders. Just guessing.

It could be that since AutoComp is formulated for compensated autoloading pistols most people wouldn't see much advantage in using it in rifle loads. Compensated pistols are known for putting off lots of flash with most powders. AutoComp is supposed be formulated to reduce flash. Also compensators typically require a certain pressure curve to allow proper function of a pistol (cycling). If you don't need those benefits you'll get better velocity from slower powders, like Walkalong pointed out. And in a carbine barrel you probably won't get much muzzle flash even with slower powders.
