hey i have a Savage 10fp, and i want to upgrade to a better stock then the POS that cane with it, i was looking at either the Choate ultimate varmint or go with the bell and Carlson Medalist. I’d like to keep it under $250. I plan on using it primarily from a bench but I want to be able to carry it to my blind for deer season. Does anyone have personal experience with either one?

10 F P

I have one of those 10 fp in a 308 and i dropped it outa my tree stand an broke the stock . I am in the same delemma not knowing which stock to get. Its a great shooter 3/4 inch @ 100 yards. :what:

I can't say enough about my Medalist stock on my 10fp.

Good solid stock with an internal aluminum skeleton. The barrel rides evenly in the channel and free floats. The stock has enough of a comb to make using a scope comfortable. Two slingpoints. Good palm swell in the rear grip area. The forend is thick and flat on the bottom. Mine is finished in a olive drab with black spiderweb finish.

It's been a good durable and stable stock. I can't say anything bad about it.

Had the Choate UV on my Savage 10FP, in .308. I liked it off the bench because it's heavy with less felt recoil. But, it's huge.
I finally got a deal on the Medalist & sold the UV to my son. His 10FP wears the Choate now.
I like the Medalist more but, I think the UV was a better bench stock because of the weight.

I had a medalist that didn't have a straight barrel channel. I won't get another. I'd look at HS precision, Mcmillan and Manners. I'm not sure if manners makes savage stocks or not. Also, I'd look at savageshooters.com for any opnions on that rifle. They are the experts.

Today I received a Medalist for my Model 70. It is perfect in fit and finish. There was nothing wrong with the factory's plastic stock, but this is much nicer. I'm very, very pleased.

I ordered mine from Stocky's, and just emailed the owner a note of appreciation. B&C's website didn't even reference the proper stock for this rifle, but the folks at Stocky's were very helpful.
