Rained this morning.
Grass hadn't been mowed, and standing water in places..........so I was only person there :)
Had a monster carpenter bee buzz me most of the shooting session.

Not a good trip.

Note. All shooting done at 25 yards only.

The 10/22 and CZ 455 hated the Winchester PowerPoint 42gr Max.
I ran out of SK match.
The CCI Mini stuff was the Xmas Polymer coated red or green that had yet to shoot well in a couple of rifles.

Consumables for the day (yes I forgot the CCI Blazer, and the mag for my AR...........sucks getting old, but in my defense I didn't sleep for crap and woke up w headache).

The 70 10/22 fingergroove was first up. Just a suede shooting bag set on top of my Wheeler Torque driver case.
Rested just behind front swivel, no rear bag. Leupold 2-7X set at 4 to get decent focus (reg big game scope).

This was similar to what I experienced last time, but without first shot flier. I was pretty shocked w the CCI HV in the upper right.
Made a new target to see if it was a fluke, and hoped it wasn't..............new target says hope is a joke kid.

The 1022 trigger aint bad, w stoned factory hammer but isn't as light as my target rig w Volq. It is better than the factory trigger (never messed with) on CZ455.

So with my little dream of a good shooting 10/22 dashed, out came the CZ.

Look at that CCI Standard V flier though. That one was a shocker. Did rip two 5 shot groups of HV in upper left to see if the one on prev pc of paper was fluke. Back to back junk groups LOL.

CZ455

The standard V did OK, was out of SK match. WW PP42 sucked. It did better w the CCI HV than the 10/22 though,
Was frustrating.
This one had Leupold EFR, parallax adjusted for crisp image at 9X.
Shots were off bipods on good, level bench, and rear bag.
I was solid and mellow, even after having a Mountain Dew Quickstart.
Shots landed where they shouldn't. Upsetting as that is, you just forget it and worry about the next shot.
Breath, hold, squeeze.......was super consistent, even w stock trigger.

I expected better. Definitely the gun needs shot in and or diff ammo.

Scope windage adjusted before low right group. The CCI HV did continue w mostly horizontal dispersion.

The 455 did well w SK match before, and standard V this time.
The 1022 got its best group to date, but was NOT repeatable.
It either gets a GM bbl and bedded or sold.
Have yet to decide.

Had my AR along, Leupold Freedom RDS has 1 moa dot.
Had it floating above my front sight post.
Gave it a whirl.

Bbl rested on bag on top of Wheeler torque driver case, no rear bag. Hand on handguard in normal shooting position.
Close enough.

Will try again at 100 when things dry out some. My feet were soaked, did find a dry path to backstop eventually, but not before playing Everglades python hunter.

The 42 WW PP stuff was louder than the rest and made both .22 rifles jump at the shot.
Hot stuff.
Neither gun liked it.
My target 10/22 doesn't either, and my prev '67 standard also did not.
$60 a brick.
Had an Anschutz 184 that loved the stuff. Gun was super light, too light really. It was a half inch with it at 25, maybe a little tighter.

Heard reports of some guys having nice groups w CCI Quiet segmented. Their chosen suppressor rigs' varmint round.
I've tried it in a few rifles now and nothing loves it.

Wondering if the polymer coated CCI stuff is junk, due to polymer or anything else.

Reg Super X, some other match, and CCI Minimag reg and Blazer the next test.
This will decide what stays or goes.

Not one shot I made was goofy, as far as execution.
None really even sloppy.
Everything felt good from the start.
Guns were not hot, shaded bench.......all prev shot and left fouled.

Dunno if the CCI Xmas polymer is cruding the bore.

Pretty much a bummer trip. Outside of the RDS being on target right from the box.

Just got email saying my scope base for the Steyr will be here Tuesday. I should be rockin w the .30-06 next weekend.
:)

I'm not a great shot, maybe not even a good shot.......but what I am seeing on these targets is ammo and or gun issues........not shooter.

Is it just something that happens when you start spending more money, start keeping records...........where things just never are as good as they should be?

The only .22 rifle I have worth a darn is my target build 10/22, and with match ammo.
Its sub .5 at 50 yards and while that won't win any matches, for a 400 dollar rifle (not counting scope) I was actually PLEASED with it, and willing to stop there.
My problem is with the overall gun weight, and the vertical grip of the BR style stock.

As far as shooting goes. It was good enough for me.
Am on the hunt for a sporter that shoots like that.
May have to keep looking.

Nobody has SK rifle match around, so will try some Eley.

Any recommendations as to their types? Don't think I've shot any since their silhouette stuff.

I like when I have the range to myself. Your pics look like fun to me! My 10/22 likes junk Win 555s, though it's no target gun, and my CZ455 likes Fed SV LRN and Aguila SV LRN.

Well I went to the range before the rains today............only one other person there..............my dad. LOL
He was bird watching down by the clubhouse, had his boat anchor Steiner Commandos.

Took 4 rigs today.
The CZ455, the 10/22 Fingergroove, the AR and...............the Contender Super 14 in .35 rem.

This the third time out for the 10/22 and I saw a repeat.
CCI Blazer. The first 5 was about an inch at 25 yards, maybe slightly larger. Wondered if some of that polymer from the Xmass CCI stuff was fouling the bore.

Next 5 was close to half inch, like yesterday. Next two groups of five (ten in the mag)......crappy like first.
Barrel was not hot, but I set it aside to cool.

Later, I picked it up and it did the same thing.......5 bad, 5 good, next 5 and 5, bad.

It's getting bbl channel sanded tonight.
Will free float and test w and w/o pressure pad.

The CZ liked the Blazer well enough. Dime sized groups at 25 yds. It has its cheap hunting ammo decided.

Up next, the TC. Not had the first shot through it since put together.
HOLY COW! Not bad but definitely "invigorating". 2X and the first shot low. Adjusted scope and high, adj again and hit my target dot at 25. Tried it at 50 yds and was 2" high and 1" right.

Storms coming, nerves frazzled.........I packed up as the droplets started.
Will take out next week and shoot 50 and 100 with it.
200gr Hornady FTX factory fodder. My 760 loves that ammo too.

Do think 150 Coreloks to be ideal, but no longer available, so shot it w what I have several boxes of.
I'm turning into a wuss in my old age. Maybe a .350 Legend would be a little nicer. Or .300 Blackout.

Did not try the RDS at 100 on the AR due to weather approaching.

Well, got Tornady warning.
The ol lady freaking out.
Try to post target pics.............have Comcast.........so who knows if the storm will screw it up.
Hopefully not like last time...........tornado missed house by 150 yards and was no power for a week,
No basement.
I'ma gonna crack open a beer.

From a cold bbl, first five shots is nothing great. Next five are better. The next groups of five were like the first. Something going on as #6 to #10 shots are tolerable. Popped it from the stock and see a dark line on wood pad touching bbl at front of stock. There is a hollow area under most of the bbl on a fingergroove (like an Overton standard too). So I'll be sanding some tonight.

Let the gun cool and it did the same thing.

Old TC easy open frame w Super 14 non ported, .35 rem.
Mounted scope a while back, first shots today.
Was low, fired to get it roughed in at 25. Took it to 50 for the 4th.
2X aint much mag, and it's a hoot off the bag. Definitely don't want more cartridge for that thing.
Gave it a few clicks as the shot felt good but nerves frazzled.

Clouds looked bad. Cleared up. Rain went north and south (the bad).
Guess this evening the storms did same thing, tornadoes too.

I use the gun case as an elbow pad. It sure helps.

Dot needs to be a bit bigger for 50 yard shooting w 2X.
Try again next weekend, scope got a couple clicks. Should be pretty close.
Arthritis, I'm only good for about 10 shots.
