I posted part of this on the revolver forum but wanted to see if I get more help here. I went to purchase a new revolver today and when called in they told me it would be a 3 day wait? I never have had this happen before on the past 4 guns I purchased except once when I went to one dealer in Oklahoma and he called it in and said sorry they said 3 days and I drove across town to another dealer same day, same info, same gun and it went right through??

I have moved from Oklahoma to Ohio and have been living here for just over a year. All my info is current. I have a concealed carry license and all and nothing negative has happened since last purchase. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to be concerned? The dealer told me that he thinks Oklahoma goes through the Highway Patrol for background checks and Ohio goes through the FBI? Does that sound right? One member on here told me they should all go through the FBI I think? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Just a note, you really should keep the posts you make to one forum or another - cross-posting the same question to multiple areas just confuses and annoys people who have to see/deal with it on seperate sections of the site. In a way, it's considered bad form...

That said, it could be an issue with the dealer - some kind of clerical error on their part when they called it in, or a misunderstanding on the part of the NICS calltaker.

Sorry about that my bad...I will remember that in the future. I appreciate you letting me know. So with the error part for the back ground check does it still usually go through?

The only time I ever got delayed it was Sunday toward the end of a gun show. I have heard it happens a lot. I have a CHL now so the call is not needed.

Also, if you have a common name like freebird, it can cause issues. :)

Did you put your SSN number on the form? That can help.

I believe what you're talking about is a "delay" response from FBI/NICS.which can last UP TO 3 days, not necessarily a full 3 days.

For whatever reason, I used to get delays every time I bought a gun. Sometimes FBI/NICS would call back in 10 minutes, sometimes 2.5 days.

Yeah, unless they discover that you're a convicted felon or some other prohibition, they have to proceed with the transaction, and will call back to the gun dealer sometime within 3 days. Like I said, sometimes it takes minutes, sometimes days. Remember, its the government... NOTHING runs efficiently.

It sucks and probably isnt constitutional, but we just have to live with it for the time being. But thats a whole 'nother topic.
