We were at the range the other day and my stepdad brought some (Speer?) Lawman ammo in the blue boxes. Standard 180 grn .40 cal. In one of the boxes, a round had the bullet in backwards. As in the base of the bullet was out and the front of the bullet was seated in the case. I didnt get any pictures of it.
Also the ammo was dirty. Not as in it made my weapon dirty, but the rounds themselves were dirty. It looked like the whole batch had gone through a broken machine that leaked some sort of hydraulic fluid on them. The cases had discolored spots on them, and some of the round looked like they were old, the copper jackets turned dark.
I dont know what happened here, I thought a lot of people like this ammo. Did we get a really bad batch? It didnt shoot very well either, opened up my groups by about 2 inches. I think Ill stick to the WWB.

P.S. My stepdads XD shot it fine:D

I think you just got a bad batch. In September of last year, we bought 19 cases of Speer Lawman, in assorted 9mm, .40S&W, and .45acp... and not a sinlge round was dirty, damaged, or deformed in any way. In fact, out of 19,000 rounds, there wasn't a single fail-to-fire due to ammunition. The most we had was half a dozen failure-to-feeds, all attributed to weak magazine springs. Good ammo, definitely.

C-grunt, are you sure your stepdad didn't get some "range reloads" in a Speer box? Not saying you couldn't get an occasional bad round (bullet loaded backwards) from the factory, but the dirty/discolored cases sound suspicious . . .

I think scbair hit it.

I shoot Lawman ammo all the time in .45 ACP and 9 mm. The ammo is always clean, factory looking stuff.

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

I've always had good experiences with Speer ammo, including their Gold Dots and Lawman ammo, mostly in .45ACP. I've never seen anything like the OP describes.

I'll agree with the possibility of reloads. I could see a cartridge might make it out of the factory with a bullet upside down (not very probable though), but I don't think the oil covered boxes would make it out.

I think you are all right. I asked my stepdad where he got it, and he said he got it from another guy. I dont know if this guy reloads, but he might.

While anything is possible, the combination of defects you told us about suggests crappy reloads, the kind that is often sold at gun shows. :barf:
