How close are we to loosing the right to cast our own bullets in our own homes, really? We shooters are being attacked from so many different directions, even casting bullets (i.e. having lead in the home, melting lead, etc.) may soon be contraband. Could this really become reality soon? In the meantime, do you think that it could affect lead prices?
Also, I heard that for one reason or another, the price of percussion caps may soon go up to 7.00 or 8.00 a tin. A local gunshop is already charging 7.50 for a tin of 100. Is this true or is it just his excuse to get more money?

I don't think it's possible to make lead, as a metal, illegal to own or cast. It has too many useful industrual purposes. Lead bullets may be banned at some point (in CA anyway) but then again, how are they gonna know what you're shooting? ;) Lead as a commodity will always be available.

Maybe they will have to open the old lead mines about 5 miles from my house.

I grab caps everytime i'm in GanderMt or if i see them in wallyworld, you never know about anything these days, i'm beginning to know how the germans felt when Hitler took over.. So far this summer we had the land Assor come around checking on our house and land to see if we're paying our share, now the dog catcher is comming around checking on illegal dogs( the illegal people down town are alright thou) and the Gov wants to give them drivers licenses.
Next yr i figure a med team will be around to put a chip in our neck so we can be scanned when we leave the house.

Now that's a leap worth comment - this year the dog catcher, next year RFI implants with tracking transponders.

Wow. What color is the sky in your world?

They're certainly promoting the idea, saying they'll save lives, make paying for things more convenient, prevent crime with smart guns, the govt. is putting them in passports, wants them in drivers' licenses, etc.

What seems to be the cheapest online source for black powder and percussion caps as of this writing?

I use Grafs for powder, Dixie Gun Works for caps...DGW does not charge the $20 haz mat fee others charge for caps...

8 bucks for CAPS? Christ, I haven't bought any for a while, but primers ain't that much! I have a deal on my hawkin converts it to shoot small rifle magnum primers, more positive ignition and semi water resistant.

I have a deal I bought off Dixie Gun Works that I make my own caps with from pop can metal. You then punch the centers out of several roll caps and place 'em in the cap body formed by the die out of the pop can metal. Works FANTASTIC in my cap and ball revolvers, better than store bought, but apparently the flame front isn't very long, because they dud on my Hawkin. Work fanstastic on a straight through ignition like the revolvers, though. I have given thought to buying a cheap inline percussion gun and seeing if the home made caps work as good as they do in the revolvers. Then, all I'd need buy is powder and, hell, if I can source the potassium nitrate and sulfur, I could make that! I'd need to buy some equipment, but I mean, if worst came to worst, I wouldn't be shootin' arrows!
