Please help This 72 year old who knows nothing about smithing.
I have a safe full of great guns but the one I want to modify is a Heritage Rough Rider 22
I want to cut the Barrel from 6 inches to 3 inches.
I'm at at a loss please tell me how. I am an good wood worker but this is way out of my knowledge, and comfort zone

Why you ask?
It was a Training / plinking gun for the grand kids for years. All are now in there teens and want to use my good stuff.
Which I'm ok with
My thought was to shorten the barrel and use it with the 22 magnum cylinder as a back up truck gun.
School me please gentlemen.

Thanks
Doc

Al I would be getting a gunsmith to do that, because I would want a good crown on that barrel.
Now the question will be whether the cost to cut that barrel will be less than buying a second hand gun with the correct length barrel...

My first thoughts Seems in this shortage has 22 mag is unobtainium.

The best gun smith in the area has a 3 month wait list but it may come to that.

Without the correct tools, cutting the barrel square to its length is quite a problem. Then, it must be crowned properly. Finally comes the front sight. A job for a professional.
