My girlfriend brought home a bayonet last night. I'm hoping someone here can ID it and give me an approximate value.
It appears French. There is writing on the back(?) of the blade that is hard to read, it's in script, obscured by tarnish, and in French. Here's a guess: More d'Olrmes de *** Etieme Fbre 1876 where *** is Ol... or Oh... can't make it out. on the curved guard "T(could be a J) 99731" is stamped. Pic below.
It is heavily tarnished the blade has the slightest bend in it towards the tip. The wood is usual condition for a mil-surp firearm like an average Mauser or Mosin-Nagant. The brass seems pretty good and the spring loaded button on the bottom still functions fine.
The scabbard hasn't fared as well. it has a bend in it which has resulted in a crack and is incredibly fouled inside with some sort of mixture comprised mostly of sand
