Got out yesterday for a bit to retry my 9mm loads. BE-86, 115gr RMR RN bullets, 10yds. The outliers are from rapid fire...

I shot my first 357 magnums loaded with BE-86 today. They were loaded on a Lee classic turret press and I use RMR 158gr Thunder Cast bullets. I had rounds loaded at 7.3gr and 7.9gr with an OAL of 1.610. Guns used were a 4 inch 686 and a 6 inch Pre-model 28. I am posting my last target which was 12 rounds from each gun of the 7.9gr load. I shot 6 from each gun, reloaded both then shot 6 more from each. I don't have a chronograph but was pleased with accuracy. This was shot standing, off hand at 30ft, double action. I pulled one off to the target right edge at about 3:00 but the rest aren't too bad. Recoil was moderate. Based on what I read in this thread they were probably running around 1100fps. maybe more from the 6 inch.

Here's some recent chrono data for 357 with a 158gr LSWC;

10/26/2016
158gr Dardas LSWC
BE-86 7.3gr
CCI-500 Primer
Ruger GP100 - 6"

FPS FT-LBS PF
1- 1176 485 186
2- 1182 490 187
3- 1174 484 185
4- 1191 498 188
5 1179 488 186

Avg StdDev Min Max
1180 6.7 1174 1191

With 6.8 gr. the avg. was 1105 FPS but the 7.3 gr string was more accurate

Went to the Range today to Chrono a few mixed loads using BE-86. Had some spare bullets laying around and wanted to do something productive with them. Some were PIF from the great folks here on THR.

All were fired from my 9mm SIG P320C 3.9in bl. 32 degree (cold) Sunny. Used Pro Chrono digital.
Chrono was 3yds (15ft) from my position, shooting at 10yd targets. Primers are all WSP

Bullet/ Powder Load/ OAL/ (No rds/Avg Vel )/ SD/ ES / Brass
124 RMR THP/ 5/ 1.1/ (10/1018) / 18/ 58 / SPEER

124 SPEER GDHP/ 5.5/ 1.12 / (10/1110) / 18/ 60 / SPEER

The 147 Berrys load caused FTE, i will have to increase the load more next time.
I did not go for accuracy, but free hand shooting showed good groupings for all at 10yds.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THESE ARE MY LOADS DEVELOPED UNDER MY CONDITIONS.

I only run BE-86 in my 45, tend to get what I want out of it. Switched up to 200gr fp so need to go chrony those to see what their doing.

"The 147 Berrys load caused FTE, i will have to increase the load more next time"

I use 3.8gr with a 145gr LRN to get 900fps

How temperature sensitive was be/86 before I roll back on my notes? I know my case fill is ok close to full for position. Just wanted to ask? before I check/search.

Is BE-86 on the shelf anywhere? So far I have only been able to get it from Powder Valley or some other online source. Haven't seen it it at Brass Pro Shop, or other local powder places.

That's good news. I prefer BE-86 for my heavier loads with the 44 mag, especially since I shoot in an indoor range.

It's kind of funny..... during the height of the powder shortage all I could find was BE86 since it was new and no one knew anything about it. The best source of info was in this thread. I was able to get a good supply back then. Now, I don't see it locally at all and it's spotty online. Funny how things change...

Ive seen none at the LGS's in my area. I wonder if they are on to it's popularity by now? I have been wanting to try some but I'm not in a hurry Since I'm sitting on a years supply of powder now.

As some said BE86 in my area as well was abundant way back, now its scarce. Luckily I bought a ton of it and worked up some nice loads as you can find way back in this thread. I am now working on some 45acp +p loads. Its my go to powder for 9mm. Too snappy for me in 40sw. Just haven't had the time with a newborn at home.

Ditto on the Sportsman's Warehouse. I finally snagged an 8 pound jug last month but I had already gone through a couple of pounds worth of testing so I knew that it was GTG for all my handgun loads (9/38/40/45).

These would have to be rocketing along pretty good, so I want to ask how the leading was rated. I am currently loading 7.5 after trying 7.0 and 7.3, with a goal of a load that is manageable all day in the medium-sized guns, e.g. a Smith 19 (K frame) with throat and forcing cone work.

Luckily, it's still available around here. I'm stocked up pretty good, and with the accuracy I'm getting out of it in 9mm I'd hate to lose my stash of it.

Went to the range and tested some ZERO 125gn JHP, fired from a Sig P320C

All loads with BE-86, OAL 1.120, WSP, Speer Brass, 70 Sunny/ 15ft from chrono

Load / OAL / Shots/FPS Avg / SD / ES
5.1 1.12 10/1054 14 47
5.2 1.12 10/1072 11 44
5.3 1.12 10/1092 10 35
5.4 1.12 10/1102 9 33
5.5 1.12 10/1122 12 48

5.4 and 5.5 were best accuracy. one flyer was a mistake shot. All target areas are 5 shots. some holes overlap.
I want to water test these Zero bullets for expansion, in the future.

Ruger 15151,

Not if my math was correct. i dont have the figures with me but no it should not be. The Chrono numbers also do not point to a compressed load. Please someone let me know if i am wrong on the math. The bullet measures at .560 so i am showing only .185 of seating depth.
