Some 20 years ago, my Pop and I were up sighting in his .300 Savage, his family had some ground we shot on. We'd laid a tarp down next to this phone pole, got everything ready, just needed a stapler to attach the target. As Pop stood up, he heard a rattle, just 2 feet behind him was a coiled rattler. Pop hollered "snake", he then jumped away, got into he back of his pickup and got a shovel, end of rattler. I think because it was cold that day, might be the reason the snake was a bit sluggish, Pop sure wasn't !

There are quite a few prairie rattlers around metro Denver, the wife almost stepped on one the other day up in Waterton Canyon.

Nicked a small buck with a bow early this afternoon! I searched for about an hour with the only spatter I could find at the attempted shooting site. But I did stumble onto the largest Copperhead Ive seen! He was all of 3 ft and fatter than normal. I almost stepped on him looking for blood! He started shaking his tail and me being hard of hearing thought it was a rattler. Ive seen them before but never shakin its tail. Glad he let me know he was there!
