Broke two decapping pins before I realized a couple of Berdan rounds were mixed in a batch of military brass.......!@#% There should be a special place in hell for the designers of that junk!

That's why I stand all my "new" brass up and shine a light in it. It helps me pick out the two holers and locate rocks before my unbreakable decapper needs a name change again.

I've become fond of the Lee dies for that reason. On their FL dies, the depriming mandrel fits into a collet and if the resistance is too great, ie Berdan, it will slide up in the collet thus saving the pin. You simply un-torque the nut, slide the mandrel back to the lower position and retighten.

as you check your brass for damage, just look at the primer itself. When you're going through a good amount of brass, the bigger berdan primer stands out pretty obviously.

Well... one can only hope. Those folks would be no doubt keeping company with the Ruger designer of the 22 pistol reassembly:fire: process, oil filter location on vehicles,:banghead: and tamper evident drug packages.:cuss:

Rembrandt, I sort brass by country first, I do not use brass that is not made in the US, out of 22,000 cases, most were pistol, of the the 22,000, 400 were forign, of the 400 3 were berdan.

Not a perfect system, I have one RP (Remington) 270 W case that uses a Berdan primer.

My personal favorite has been arthritus medicine in child-proof bottles!

You do get tools to remove bedran primers... also bedran primers in the market.
Just keep the brass seperate.
