I was hoping that someone here might be able to assist. My Tomcat's double action portion of the trigger pull is not working properly. I have to use a punch to move back the right side recoil lever tip into its recess by pushing the punch into that little portion under the front top right grip section.

Even if I get it to work once, I have to pull the trigger forward manually to get one shot at a time in double action before I loose it.

I tried looking up videos on the internals, but they are useless. However, 1 video makes me think my trigger spring is installed backwards by the looks of how I saw it installed. There appears to be a looped end of the spring and a straight single cut off wire end. Mine is installed with the single wire end on top and against the front of the frame.

Is this correct? I have been wondering if it was installed backwards at the factory??? I tried to drift out the trigger pin, but it was not budging. I am not sure what side it comes out from either. It sticks out on the left so I believe it goes out from right to left???

Does anyone here have a close up pic from the top of their Tomcat to show the proper placement of this spring? My next step is to send it in to Beretta. :what:

Well, in case anyone in the future is watching, I talked to Beretta and am sending in the gun. They will see what they can do... :scrutiny: The gun was made in 1998, looks brand new though, but I was told it's out of warranty. I could swear I heard the guy sing "nyah nyah, nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!" after he said that. :D

Amazing what poor info there is out there on these guys, I just wanted to avoid dealing with Beretta. It's like dealing with friggin' Alitalia. I do not get the warm fuzzies from Beretta CS, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I will certainly report back if I do.

Your spring doesn't look right to me. I know its hard to tell from my crappy
photo, but to me it looks like the hooked end is on the wrong side of the pin.

Thanks fellas! I am thinking it was something to do with the spring, but since I could not get the pin out without using an 8 1/2# sledge hammer, I am leaving this to more skilled hands.

It's already with my FFL, shipping out tomorrow. Cheaper to have him do it, even both ways. It's a sweet looker, a 1998 production Real Blue Gun, not the matte finish. Looks brand new. Warning card in the box says to take it easy on the ammo.

So, mouse farts if she makes it back. :D

Follow up

I wanted to follow up. Well, I got the gun back from Beretta today. They re-installed the trigger spring/bar correctly. They said the shoulder on the frame where the right recoil bar rests has worn and can't be repaired. And by the way, it looks barely scuffed, and that was from trying to get the bar back into place after it popped off when I took off the grip panel.

So, I have to cajole the lever back with a punch if I want to get the slide back on and shoot it. The slide usually pops off when you pop up the barrel. So, I guess it is a paperweight, as I could never use it for self defense, unless I wanted to never use the tip up feature (or just shoot 1 mag).

It's sad, since the gun did not have a mag through it, but since it was out of warranty, Beretta will not do anything for me. In other words, even if it was due to faulty materials or design, you (I in this case) loose.

I suppose that is a legitimate course of action for Beretta, and is their right. I have to say I am a little disappointed with their resolution. I guess a discount or something on another pistol would have been nice. At least I know not to buy another Tomcat if the Alloy used is this soft. Too bad, I wanted it to work. I am happy for all those with Tomcat's that work.

Not ten minutes ago, I was looking at Tomcats on the beretta sight....thinking of buying one for my wife for Christmas. Not now. Sorry for your troubles.

I will be putting it up for sale as a parts gun, since they are all in as new condition (except the frame). Turn lemons into lemonade. I had a SS Tomcat about 11 years ago, and that one was very picky with bullet ogive. I like the looks and feel, but I have had Zero luck with the model. I thought I was being loyal to my ancestors, :D , by trying another one.

Listen, sure there are a lot of people out there with working models, just not me. ;)

I concede victory...

I like Beretta but sadly the Tomcat has issues. I passed on one a while back that I could have gotten very cheap, forget what was wrong with it but it was more of a project than I wanted even if I got it for $100 which wasn't going to happen.
