Beretta 70 series I

I am looking at buying a Beretta 70 .32 single action---the safety seems to be a round button on the side instead of being located on the slide. In later versions the safety is moved to the top---does anyone have any knowledge or experience with what seems to an early model 70? I would also be interested if this were a steel or an alloy construction.
