A local shop has an excellent condition 92S that I am REALLY tempted by. (NOT the 92FS) The gun felt very solid, and the trigger was quite nice. It has Millet adjustable sights, which I could go either way on. The sight picture is good, and of course I can adjust my POI, but the front sight looks to be pinned on in some way, and the bottom seems to to have been custom fabbed to hug the barrel and slide along it as the slide cycles. If the pictures I've seen of 92S's are correct, it looks like the front sight is an integral part of the slide? If so that would mean that whatever hole was drilled for the front sight would be permanent?

Also, are there any other quirks or issues with the 92S version? How does it feed hollow points? I had a Sig P6, but it was one of the earlier versions that did not like HP bullets.

thanks!

Front sight is permanent, that is correct. The 92FS has an enlarged hammer pin that fits into a groove on the underside of the slide. The main purpose is to stop the slide from flying off the frame to the rear if it cracks. This was in response to reported defective slides during US Military testing. Otherwise, the 92S and FS are the same.

The 92S Had the mag release on the bottom left of the grip. The 92S was the earlier version of the 92 series. They were made in italy to very high standards of finish.
