5 Years ago, before my father's birthday, I posted a thread about finding him a light recoiling shotgun due to back issues (https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/shotgun-for-bad-back.691066/).

A couple people mentioned the Beretta A300. Well he never got around to changing shotguns and now his 75th is coming up and I want to finally get him a shotgun he can enjoy shooting. I like the A300 due to several reasons, price is good and I'd get the standard Outlander that could be used for clays or hunting.

I just wanted to ask how people like their A300s. Also can it handle light loads?

Thanks
Andrew

Pretty happy with my Outlander. One note, and it might be unique to my gun, is it doesn't like steel low brass ammo. True brass low brass, no problem, but the steel stuff doesnt cycle. Several on the forum have suggested solutions but none have panned out. I have cleaned gas portes, smoothed chamber, et, but no help with steel. I've accepted that as long as Wally world sells low brass federal ammo cheap, I'm not worried about it. Outside of this "limitation", I've not had a single issue with it. Even managed to shoot one of my 2 best skeet scores with it.

I've had an a300 for probably 3 years now and have put between 5-6k rounds through it with 2 malfunctions. One was ammo related and one was user error. I has run light 7/8 oz reloads to 1 1/8 oz trap loads without a hitch and recoil is very light.

Shot my 1st 25 at skeet with it. it does run clean too. I clean the piston between 4-500 rounds and it's pretty straight forward. It's a great all around shotgun. Though I only use mine for sporting clay and skeet I wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting in the worst of conditions.

I bought the standard synthetic model last year and shot it at trap, skeet, and sporting clays. Loved it! I gave it to my daughter and bought the new "Sporting Model" with the longer barrel and wood "sporting" stock. Well I couldn't hit much with it at all. Traded daughter and now I'm happy again. I love my A300 Synthetic.

I think they are excellent shotguns even though I sold mine. Beretta’s just don’t fit me. If they did I’d still have my A300.

Thanks all for the responses. My dad went and fount a synthetic A300 at a local store and picked it up today. He's taking it out to shoot tomorrow

My brother has one and he has been quite pleased with it. I bet your dad will too. As long as he doesn't mind synthetic. Lots of older guys just have to have wood.

Honestly I was pushing for wood, but he went with the synthetic so hopefully he doesn't change his mind.
