Best AK muzzle brake for under 25 bucks?

For a buck more you can get the Krebs A2 comp/hider. It performs a lot like the slant brake with some flash-hiding capability (actually I haven't shot it in the dark yet). Fit and finish is excellent.

Straight brake for recoil and muzzle rise reduction? AMD-65 "snake brake" works very well but is very loud and enhances flash.

AK-74 style brake from TAPCO is under $20 and fairly effective.

Flash isn't much of an issue with a 16" barrel 7.62x39mm.

I really like the "fake" Krinkov style brakes (from Cope's and elsewhere) for about $10. On my Draco-C its way more effective than the slant or AK74-style.

The "real" one from K-Var is about $80, but if it actually works better the muzzle would have to move down with each shot :)

Shooting the Draco off sand bags the muzzle jumped about the same as a 6" .44Mag. The slant break was barely noticeable compared to the muzzle nut. The AK-74 style was better, but I'm not convinced an equivalent dead weight on the front wouldn't do as good. The Krinkov style had the recoil so straight back that I scraped my elbows on the shooting bench!

I've been very happy with the AMD-65 brakes I have on both full-size AKs and my Krinkov. They are loud, but definitely reduce muzzle climb.

I also have an AMD-65 brake on my AK and am happy with it. I thought I was one of the only ones to slap one of those on something other than an AMD... I am surprised how many others have, too!
