Best Chest Holster for a Smith & Wesson 629 Mountain Gun .44 mag with a Bow / Archery?

I purchased a Smith and Wesson 629 in .44 mag with a 4" barrel for backup when archery hunting for bear and to go deer hunting 1 time. It's 2 bucket list things, kill a deer with an iron sighted pistol, no scope or optic and shoot a bear with my bow wherein I'd wear the pistol as backup.

I've read about Diamond D, Simply Rugged, Paradise Valley Leather (formerly Clark's Fork Leather), and Kenai Gunfighters, which one of these or any others to recommend?

What's the best chest holster for this revolver?


I started another thread but didn't hadn't planned on a chest holster then, now I know I want a chest holster to wear over my cold weather hunting clothes.

I figure a company in Alaska that calls their holster rig “Guide’s Choice” must know a little something about chest rigs. They also carry speed loaders. I may have to check those out for my S&W 327.

I borrowed a Guide's Choice and did not like it. The holster was not stabilized enough for active movement. It flop around on my chest too much. I went with a Gunfighter Kenai Chest Holster. Just as comfortable but far more stable even with a larger revolver.


A 6.5-inch S&W 610 and the holster.

I have been really tempted to get one of those as a way to carry while working. Protects the gun better and some room for small parts and tools. Like when filling feeders and working around the hunting property.

I have one.....it’s a great option to a more conventional holster. And it can easily be attached to the front straps of a pack enabling pistol carry in a safe and accessible way when back packing.

I have a bianchi chest rig for a 4" N frame...it has a removable flap.
I don't know the model number or if they are still available.
It's a nice set up....cordura and plastic design.

Thanks for all the help guys, I ended up going with 2 Diamond D chest holsters with removable flaps and reloads after reading the negative thread on Simply Rugged holsters.
