Just picked up a slightly used 870 police, parkerized, 18" barrel and am looking for a mag extension-should I stick with a factory remington one, or are they made for remington by scattergun/choate/etc...?
I guess the only way to obtain a remington/oem one is from a leo dealer?
please advise
cheers

Best extension? None at all... 8^) Learn to feed that puppy. No magazine is ever big enough, and good reloading skills will come to you sooner if you use a factory 4-shot magazine tube.

Second best? Remington factory, 2-shot in your case since it's for an 18" barrel. They turn up from time to time at CDNN, Numrich etc. Cost on a new one from the factory tends to be pretty high, I'd wait for a good used one to turn up. Meanwhile run the gun without an extension- that way you'll be better prepared to decide if you think it's an improvement when you do put one on.

I honestly think the gun is better balanced without an extension. I own Remington, Wilson, Choate, and Tacstar extensions for my Remingtons. I prefer the factory extension personally, as I think it looks the best. None of them have given me any problems though.

went with OEM

Thanks for the replies. I plan on learning the basics, but went ahead and ordered a factory +2 from craigs today while it was on my mind.
cheers
