I was looking through Armslist for some 22LR handguns. I came across this and was reading the description.

Only to find this:

Extra information:
To all the spammers and criminals that can't legally buy guns, don't contact us asking to meet in a parking lot to complete a cash sale, or to trade a stolen laptop or other electronics for our guns. You shouldn't have guns, and we're definitely not going to help you get one. To those who are under the legal age to buy firearms or handguns, we understand your desire to have a gun, but we will not break the law to sell you one, so please don't ask. We believe that if an 18 year old is old enough to fight for our country in the armed forces, they should be able to buy a gun. But until a little common sense is used in Washington DC, we cannot sell handguns to anyone under 21, and long guns to anyone under 18.

Made me laugh a little bit and figured I'd share :D

The funniest part is where they say "But until a little common sense is used in Washington D.C...."! That hasn't' happened in a very long time and I doubt it ever will again anytime in the near future.

The real problem is that "common sense" isn't really "common". I don't mean that as a pithy joke, what I mean is that one person's "common sense" can be drastically different than another person's.

Let me re-acquaint you guys with a phrase we've heard a lot in the media this year:

"Common sense gun controls".

I agree with most here, little to no sense anywhere these days when guns become political.

I also agree with 'common' sense being so different from person to person these days that there really is no 'common' sense.

There is realistic sense, which many people do not carry around with them these days.

I really don't like the way that it's worded. It directly implies that the only people who buy guns in parking lots with cash exchanges are doing so because they can't legally own a gun, and also that it is illegal to sell a handgun to anyone under 21. I understand that they're dealers, and therefore they can't sell to anyone under 21 nor can they sell the gun through a private sale, but the entire tone of the message seems to look down upon those who acquire guns anywhere but a gun-shop, and on anyone whose method of payment is anything other than a credit card.

Then again, it might be my own bias making me read it that way.

Regardless, I didn't find it funny, but you probably already knew that.

I think they worded it that way to state that they're a shop and they'll legally sell their firearms through their store.

I didn't read it as them looking down on anyone else.

Yep, that's how it sounded to me, they are probably getting people requesting they do illegal transfers and put that in the ad to cut down on those types of emails.

I've had folks ask about buying a carbine I had listed that just sounded shady from all angles.

So, I cannot blame the poster for their spelling all that out.

And I even got a chuckle out of it. Full of WIN!

Seriously, I have put an add on Armslist for a shotgun and then get someone emailing me saying "I need a handgun real bad" and offering me a bunch of stereo and video game equipment in trade.

Mike

Well said. When I hear the term "common sense," these days it usually means "don't make me show my work."

I'll agree with you there Dave.. I like to hear people say something way out there and say, oh it's common sense.

Well show me how it makes ANY sense first, then we'll talk about the common part.
