We've all been in threads that criticized gun shops.
There are a lot out there that deserve criticism.

But in the spirit of The High Road,
let's make this thread about the best ones.

Yesterday, I experienced the best gun shop I've ever been in -- by far.
People of integrity, who understand humor and are knowledgeable.
I told them that. Later in this thread, I'll name it.

But first, what is yours?

City, town, or state.

The best gun shop close doesn't even have a name as far as I know. It is simply known as going to see Mr Barrett. Mr Barrett is a 75 year old chain smoking retired Marine who has a small metal building beside his home. When you walk in there are no guns displayed, but there are pallets of ammo on the floor and he used to have the best stock of reloading supplies within 100 miles. Last time I was in there reloading supplies were limited by his standards, but still better than most places.

There are no guns on display. He has a walk in vault built in one corner with guns still in the box stacked to the ceiling. Some are 20 years old or more. Lately he has been doing mainly transfers or special orders. Only trusted, established customers are allowed into the gun room. If you go in and ask about something he goes into the vault and brings one out for you to see. He only takes cash BTW.

He is a hard nosed conservative, extremely pro-gun, and the conversation is always lively. He is quite a character and will be missed when he is gone. His store hours are 6 AM-Noon Monday-Saturday.

Bass and Antler, Milledgeville, Ga. No better service or prices anywhere. Owned by Ken Machen. I live out of town, but travel over an hour to go there.

Sportsman's Trading Post, Wintersville, Ohio. Fair prices and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. Best gun shop I've used in the five states I have lived in.

Charlotte lacks any worthwhile gunshops that I've found. Hyatt's gives you the used car salesman treatment, Firepower acts like they're selling the only guns on the planet. Carolina Sporting Arms is ok, but very pricey. Blackstone has a great range and customer service, but only sells at MSRP.

Yet, they all complain when many of us locals just use a pawnshop FFL for $20 transfers.

I'd love to hear of better experiences locally, if anyone has them.

Georgia Gun Store. Gainesville, GA. Family owned, retired military, well stocked, great prices, $20 FFL transfers, very fair and honest pricing. They have a great mobile app to keep up with new stock, too.

Grabagun Retail store is 20 mins from my office. If I know what I want I can order online and pick it up there. Not many LGSs in the DFW area with all the big box stores like BPS, Academy, and Cabela's.

H&H gun range ...Oklahoma City.....largest gun shop....with indoor ranges....I have ever seen. And I spent a lot of my career traveling...and visiting guns shops all over the southwest..

I have two

The first is Family Firearms Sales of Colorado Springs.
3866 Maizeland Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909
(719) 465-2213

There are a lot of things I like about this store. Number one the owner and sales people are polite to my wife. In some gun stores they've treated her like an idiot who knows nothing about guns because she's female.

Most of the staff knows our name and the greet us as soon as we walk in the door.

I said something nice about these guys on FB once and the next time I walked in the store the owner (Chad) told me to pick any box of ammunition free of charge.

Their prices are fair, they have a good inventory and if they don't have it they will tell you where to get it.

ETA the sticker price on the gun is the OTD price tax included and they don't charge for the Background Check.

I have no idea what they charge for a transfer

The other place is
Stop, Drop and Shop.
3920 Academy Blvd N, Colorado Springs, CO 80917
(719) 203-6685

They are actually moving this week end but only a door or 2 (literally) North.

They are a used gun store, their prices are reasonable and if they buy from you they give you a realistic, fair price.

They have a good selection but because they deal in used firearms you can't always find exactly what you're looking for

For the cheapest transfers or prices, I would have to go to a pawn shop or an individual.

However my favorites to go to and spend some time in around Houston are:

Collectors Firearms

Fountain Firearms

Spring Guns & Ammo

Carter's Country (on Treaschwig)

Great idea for a thread!

Great Guns on the north side of Liberty, Missouri, on the north east edge of Kansas City metro area. Large inventory, professional & knowledgable staff (no loud mouth braggarts, no Special Ops wannabe's, and they generally don't talk politics - they are there to sell guns). In my opinion, their prices used to be better than other local gun stores and now they are about the same as most of their local competition.

They are located across the parking lot from Roger's Sporting Goods which is easily seen from south bound I-35. Roger's has a large inventory of fishing equipment and everything for hunting except guns and ammo (they do sell shotgun shells at great prices - all other guns and ammo is handled by Great Guns). Roger's also has an archery section, small boats & kayaks, and a large inventory of gun safes on display.

If you are traveling thru KC on I-35 these two stores would be a great place to stop and stretch your legs. If you need something to eat, find the Corner Cafe near I-35 & M152 (the next exit south from Great Guns & Roger's).

Kittery Trading Post
bottom of the state of Maine.

They give in store credit for stuff you want to get rid of. Lots of used reloading and casting stuff. Lead and brass.
Not to mention the amount of used and new fire arms.

Wow, this one took off overnight and this morning. Great. I've only scanned some entries so far, and enjoying what I'm reading -- some nice stories here. I have to work part of today, so I'll pick up reading tonight. Glad we're doing this.

Williams Gun Sight just outside of Flint, MI in Davison.

http://www.williamsgunsight.com

When the past panic happened, they didn't raise their prices, they kept stock as well as they could and treated their customers fairly. Great gunsights and a nice range too.

Richmond has a bunch, but none are perfect

Greentop has the best selection, but their prices are pretty high.

Colonial Shooting Academy has the best prices that I have seen.

Lest I forget: I'm visiting Eugene Oregon (for another couple of weeks). I once lived here.

The newest store that's opened since I was here last is Gun Pro Shooting Supplies. I sung their praises in my OP. Family owned and run. The owner and his wife were there yesterday. (Awesome to see a woman behind the counter at a gun store.) Both were exceptionally courteous, friendly, funny, helpful and knowledgeable. They have a relatively small stock of handguns and rifles (compared to the other stores here), but quality. And of course, they can order.

ETA: their prices are also surprisingly low. They've got at least one other store beat on the price of a Ruger SR9c by $25, and are not much higher than Bud's.

Oh, and it's actually in the adjacent town, across the river: Springfield.

How much do I trust their judgment? I explained handgun fit to my wife and waited in the car. They sent her out with a Sig that she likes.
