I want to put one of my handguns in my bedside table drawer. Ideally it should have a quick-release system such as a short combination of finger presses then pop up to reveal the gun, butt first.

I bought a $199 hornady safe but it's far too big to fit.

Anyone got any ideas?

Screw or glue (Or better yet, both) the Hornady safe to the top of the table where it belongs anyway!!

You don't want your hand in a drawer, in a safe, fishing around for your gun when the bad guy sees what you are doing and power kicks the drawer shut on your tender finger bones!!

Also take a look at vertical mount safes. Here is a video that describes a vertical mount safe toward the end of the video.
I have one and mounted it between the bed and the nightstand. Less visible if you have a picky spouse (I don't0 and it doesn't stand out and scream "Gun Safe." Click on the first item under Product Videos.

+1 for mounting it to a table and not inside a drawer. It doesn't make much sense to buy the best quick access safe you can find only to defeat the purpose and fumble opening the drawer in a panic.

That being said I took the chance and bought a Gun Box (original name I know) for Christmas 2 years ago. The only issue it has given me is the RFID tags seem to be a little fragile so I had to come up with a better method of protecting them. Other than that, it has been a pretty solid option.
