Best rifle with high quality wood stock

$1500 might not even buy a “fancy grade” blank and duplication, let alone the metalworks to bed down into it.

When I’m looking for a pretty stick, Macon is where I find it.
My opinion as well.
I REALLY like blued steel and fancy wood, and at this point I want to choose both and have it assembled.....or pay someone enough that they are willing to build exactly what Ive got envisioned.

I've seen some very pretty factory stocks, and metal work. There's been a few that have fit and finish ID want under 1500, but they are rare.
I'd not order any 1500 dollar factory gun expecting the kinda materials and finish that would wow me.

I would also suggest hitting the used areas of gun stores or gun shows. I picked up an older tikka with better than average stock with some great engraving. Plenty fancy for me.
Actually, that's laser "carving" and doesn't do anything for me, I'd much rather pay for higher grade lumber...

To the OP: I think for $1500. you need to hit every store, until you can find and find something you like...

You won't see stocks like these for $1500.,

It comes with custom stocks or at a big extra cost,

Especially, if it's European walnut,

I prefer wood over plastic. It doesn’t need to be fancy wood though. I have a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter and CZ 550 American with fairly plain Walnut. I don’t care for high gloss, much prefer an oil finish.

You can get a nice walnut stock blank for $1500. Carving it yourself is really not very hard at all. The maple stocks made now just make me sick. They will take a very nice piece of maple and do NOTHING with it. Just a coat of varnish or oil and call it good enough. Maple is amazing when it is done right. Tannic acid, nitric acid, iron, heat, and many hours.

The used racks are a good place to look if you don't mind a gun that isn't new. Here are a couple of left hand Savages I picked up with nice wood. The .243 is well figured walnut while the .30-06 is straight grained:

Very good looking guns. What a shame someone made them backwards.....

I was at the KCK Cabelas's today and there were two very fancy Brownings in 270. They were the A bolt gold medallion versions and the "cheaper" one had a really nice figured walnut stock.
