Want to put a stud mounted bi pod on my savage 22 mag.What are the different sizes best used for?6"-9".........9"-13"......12"-24".....etc.Whats best for bench and some field shooting at coyoyes.Have never used one and know nothing about them.

I use the Harris in the medium length and have 4 of them as well as 1 Bench Rest (short) and 1 long one.
The med. suit me best all around, the exception is getting a real good rest for a long shot sitting in which the long ones shine but they are heavier and stick way out to the end of the barrel or past in some cases.

I personally like the larger sized bi-pods while in the field. When closed, I tend to make better shots when on my belly. When fully extended, I can sit up against a tree and have it ready for a shot in the shooting position.

If you're going to be doing both hunting and targets, look into the medium to large sized bi-pods. The larger ones might be too tall to be shot off of a bench though.

Also depends if you're shooting in flat country or hilly country. If it's hilly, you'll need a bit more range of adjustability for shooting uphill as opposed to shooting acroos a relatively flat field. I've got 9"-13"s on three of my rifles.

I have owned a 9"-13" Harris for >20 years. It is great for prone, and I suppose would be perfect for off a bench. That size would of course be too short for shooting from a seated position, so if that matters to you, get the 25C size.

Bill2e, I have no experience of the knockoff versions. I have many times read that they are of inferior quality: which may or may not be correct, I cannot say. I do feel confident in saying that the Harris bipods are lightweight, durable and functional, and are worth the prices charged.

Spend the extra money and get a Harris set.

One of my 12-24 pair is a $30 knock off, the other is a Harris. Never have to tighten anything up on the Harris. The other brand, I have to make sure the legs don't pop off after several uses in the field.

You will certainly save money buying a clone. You might or might not be happy with the results, I don't know about that.

If you Google "Harris bipod clones", you will find a fair number of threads that make interesting reading. A majority of the posts seem to say that the copies are cheaply made and do not hold up. A few posters report that they are perfectly happy with the copies that they own. So I would say that the jury is still out on this issue.

If you Google "Harris bipod problems", you will not find any posts. I am sure that they are not perfect (no product is), but they are close enough as makes no difference.

For big game I will usually take the long set if any but for varmints and predators I usually go prone and that the med. I bought the BR model for my contender and it works pretty good on it. Never tried the knock offs but keep my eyes open for a gun for sale that has one or behind the counters at gun and pawn shops to get the best deals, can't remember paying over $40. for a Harris.

I put a sitting model Harris on my Savage that I use for Whitetail here in PA.I forget the actual model now but I think it is 13"-24" or something like that.

I bought that model because I knew I was going to be hunting in mostly fields with some hay spots that have some hay still in them and that if I bought the prone or bench model it would have been to low.

Those are just some of the things i took into consideration while looking at Bipods and how I chose the one I did.

Also with the weather around here during deer season I didn't really want to lay down on the ground in the rain when it is only 40degrees.

I also got the one that swivels because since I was hunting on hills it helps to have it swivel to the side so that the stock is seated in my shoulder better instead of being sideways.

And you were asking about whether or not the Harris' were wroth the extra money.I personally think they are because I have had good luck with mine and though I have never owned another brand of bipod I have read many mixed reviews on other brands while with the Harris Brand i have always heard good reviews.

I have the 9-13 for bench shooting but for prone I use my backpack as a rest.
