Bipod for savage axis

I personally prefer friction locks, might just be the “Devil I know,” but I like the quicker adjustment. On the clock, I usually set my pod long, especially long on the left leg, then if I need to lower the rifle, I can reach up and quickly shorten the left leg only, relying on the tilt feature to square the rifle again once I’m in the right height range for my rear bag. The weight of the rifle and the return spring of the legs does the adjusting for me - I wrap my hand around the leg, drag my pinky on the telescoping leg section, use my thumb and index finger to unlock the knob - then gravity does the rest.
This makes sense.

The basic 6-9 swivel model is available with either notched or smooth legs. Considering this will mainly be used on the bench, which would you choose?
I generally would prefer notched, because it seems like a more positive setting whereas friction locks can slip.
If you're gonna live with notched legs, I'm a fan of the Magpul bipod - it seems easier to consistently load than my Harris bipods. The Magpuls that I have offer both tilt and pan, although for bench shooting I lock out the pan feature.

Aah, jeeze.... I'm all confused! Lol.
Swivel= tilt, not pan.
Does the harris bipod rotate/pan left and right?

No, the Harris only tilts, no pan. The call it “swivel,” but it’s tilting.

More often than not, I prefer non-panning. A little wiggle this side or that still works without pan, and when you really think about tracking a mover from a rear bag, it’s pretty difficult to pan very far - the buttstock has to move across the rear bag a long ways to pan a little. Nobody is standing up behind a pod mounted rifle and swinging their body back and forth; it’s just a little movement left or right to track a target.

I have a Savage Model 10 Tactical in .260 and a model 110 HS Precision
in .300 Win mag and both sport Harris swivel bipods and Nikon scopes.
Both rifles are heavy with their thick, heavy contour 24" barrels and
even with all that weight,
these Harris bipods work great. I did add an aftermarket handle to
adjust the tilt friction on the bipods. Makes it easier to adjust the
bipods to be rock solid once I get the tilt correct.
I also have those levels that attach to the scope so I
can actually see when things are perfectly level.
I have been very happy with both these Savage rifles and both
can shoot 1/2 MOA using the bipods if I do my job.
