I recently came upon an old black hawk 357. it worked fine and was in good shape but dirty thru and thru.. i broke it down to parade rest, scrubbed everything and put it back together. i could swear i put everything back where it came from, all the screws went back in the hole they came out of... the gun SHOULD work... cocking the hammer operates the cylinder latch and pawl like it should. BUT when i install the cylinder the gun won't go to full cock, the cylinder doesn't spin..
i'm about to start beating my head on a wall about this.. i've already torn it back down and rebuilt it two of three times. does anyone have and idea what i'm doing wrong?

Wild guess, you are not getting the base pin - the pin the cylinder turns on - in all the way and thus the small spring loaded pin on the end is not pushing the transfer bar back enough to clear the firing pin, thus not allowing the hamnmer to cock completely. If you turn the cylinder as you put it in it should go easier.

wow.. that was simple... there's actually a little screw underneath the base pin.. i'm not sure how it works.. but i loosened it just a bit and somehow it being too tight was stopping the base pin from going all the way in. thanks for the tip
