Bolt Bug CZ 527

I have a pair of 527 Varmints in 204. Wonderful rifles for accuracy but the feeding is far from the butter smooth slickness of the storied Mauser actions. I put up with it because 98 out of 100 on PD's will buy a lot of patience from me.

BTW, he did have a Custom Folding rear sight made for his rifle since the 527's rear sight is only windage adjustable from the factory and they do not make any aftermarket rear sights for that model.

New England Custom Gun makes a windage and elevation adjustable rear peep sight for the 527.

You wouldn't be able to mount a scope easily, although maybe with some kind of scout setup you could make it work.

@ Dap90
Thank you, that looks like a great sight.
But Armoredman wanted to have the option of having a scope, and if it got damaged or he couldnt use a scope because of adverse conditions, could Pull the scope and have the iron sights ready to go.
The folding rear sight makes that possible with the standard CZ scope rings.
Plus, I dont think he likes LER Scout Scopes.
We had quite a discussion about his design desires while I was building the parts for him.

DAP90, trust me, I looked everywhere for an adjustable rear sight - that one was not around at the time. Plus, LAGS is right, that one couldn't do this...

There was about 1.5 mm of clearance between the scope and the folded sight. :)

DavidMS, thanks, but LAGS did all the work. You should see some of the other stuff this guy does...on another thread, of course.

I understand. I want a 527 carbine in 7.62x39 and the sights are one of the reasons I haven't looked real hard. I just don't understand the factory rear sight design decision on that rifle.

I like peeps but I want to scope it more and I have no interest in a scout scope setup, if it could even be done on that rifle.

@ DAP90
The rifles with Peep sights or receiver sights were built for shooting Open sighted.
They give you a way better sight picture than do blade sights.
But they are no where near as good as a scoped rifle.
Look at most African Big Game rifles.
You will hardly ever see a scope on any of them until recent years.
The Peep sights will give you quicker sight alignment on game at reasonable distances, and way better than a scope.
But it looks like you are looking for the best of both worlds on one rifle.
Unfortunatly, they both mount in the same spot the on the rifle to be really effective.
The only alternative is to use a side mount scope base that still lets you have space across the top of the receiver for your Peep sight and sighting window.
I made a Mauser one time in that configuration with a Williams receiver sight, and a High mounted scope.
But then you run into the problem that an open sighted rifle stock, is not designed or comfortable shooting a High mounted scope.
Or if the stock is built with a higher comb for the high scope, you cant get your face down to use the receiver or Peep sight.
But a Low mounted scoped rifle will still work with Barrel sights.

LAGS, can you get a scope close to the bore on the 527? I've never handled a 527, but everything I've read suggests that the bolt and eyepiece tend to interfere with each other unless you have extra high scope rings.

If I ever bought a CZ527 I'd be looking for a way to add a red dot sight. Ultra fast target aquisition and enough magnification (1x) to kill deer out to the 7.62x39's effective range (about 100 yards from that short barrel?)

@ Corn-Picker.
I do not own a 527, it is Armoredmans rifle, I just build him the parts when he wants something they don't make.
But you can see the scope he has on the rifle, and it is a 40mm lens.
I don't know what rings he used on the gun, but there is no conflict with the bolt at all.
Now, Dont sell the 7.62x39 short.
I would use it for Deer up to 200 yards, and I think it is a better performer than a 30/30 at that distance, but Use 130 or heavier bullets for good knock down power.
As far as accuracy, you see that Armoredman can consistantly hit a 8" target at 200 yards and with Cast Lead Bullets.
Jacketed bullets do much better.
And when it Hits, it makes the steel target Dance on the chains.
He will be trying 300 yards in a week or so.

You can get the scope down fairly well on the 527, but you may need to avoid some of the scopes with the large ocular bells or large diameter magnification adjustment rings. There's also a low profile bolt handle from CZ ($35) that provides more scope clearance.

You can mount almost anything on the 527M if you use the Picatinney rail accessory. Since I went with irons, mine went to someone else who needed it, but it does exist, pictured here with a Bushnell scope.

Yes, it must be used with low mount scope rings. Pictured below are the standard rings with a Simmons scope...thing turned to junk after one range trip. :(

Note the rear sight had been removed for both pictures - this was prior to knowing LAGS. VERY glad I met him!

Take a look at:
Tikka t3 Hunter chambered in .223. Nice stock, ultra smooth action, very accurate, reasonable price. I just bought a regular T3 (composite stock). I'm changing the bottom metal to use AI mags with the option of larger capacity (which you would not want)
Or
Tikka T3 Sporter in .223. Beautiful stock but a heavy one. Sturdy barrel as well. A great shooter and quite a beautiful design but wouldn't want to carry very far. I bought one of these in .308 with the 24" barrel which is why I bought the .223 in the Lite design.
GL,
B
PS I bought both at EuroOptic. Huge selection and easy to deal with. I have no affiliation whatsoever.
