I have been trying to find a good shooting load for an older model Browning 270. I want to use Accubonds,Sciroccos, or something similiar but have been unable to get these to shoot much under 3" groups. The gun is not a tack driver but it shoots around 1" with factory Core Lokt. I have heard that some older rifles don't like the new stiffly bonded bullets because they don't swell much under pressure. Has anyone else heard about or had this problem? Any suggestions???

It sounds like maybe your rifle doesn't like boattail design bullets. I'm not sure about the whole "stiffer" theory, I haven't heard that, but I have seen rifles that won't shoot boattails well, and all the bonded ones I've seen are that style.

I have a old BSA 270WIN i bought 2 boxes of hornady 270 light mag at 45$+ a box they were boat tail spire points. At 100 yrds it was all i could do to hit the paper target witch was about 16"by22". I bought a box of federal power shok <cheap stuff> and i just about had bullet hole touching at 200 yrds.
iIcould not belive the differents.
There could be some sound reasons for this.old gun new high test ammo <pressure>. gun has seen lots of fireing worm barrel not worn out just enough for 3100fps bullet compared to 2850fps feds. bullet shape less bullet touching the lands not receiving proper twist at 3100 fps.
headspace they have better tooling now adays. and the list could go on.

I agree Core Lokt are decent hunting bullets but I have had more than one give sub par performance when hitting a tough hog shoulder going in. I thought about the boat tail but I've had good luck with Match Kings. I think I'll try some softer Boat Tail bullets. Are Game Kings pretty close to Core Lokt as far as bullet strength??

No.

Conventional jacketed Boat-tail bullets, unless bonded, are generally bad about letting the core squirt out of the jacket on impact.

Kind of like a Morse taper tool in a drill press.
The Morse Taper tooling is stuck tight as a Scotsman, but one little bump on the tang releases it to fall out.

There is no practical advantage to a boat-tail bullet anyway except for long range target shooting.

If you haven't already done so, clean your Browning with copper solvent, and try the Accubonds, Sciroccos, etc. again.

Changing bullet brands without getting all the old jacket fouling out first sometimes causes accuracy problems.

Here is an interesting link on bullet performance:

Great article!!! I've cleaned the barrel extensively before testing each batch of loads so I don't think that's it. I mentioned trying the Game Kings because they are boat tail but a softer bullet. I think I'll go the other way and try a bonded style flat based bullet. I realize that any of these bullets will do the job if shot placement is good but this is fast becoming a vendetta. The terminal perfomance of the accubond was outstanding and I am bound and determined to find a similar bullet that will shoot well enough to make a 300 yd shot.
