Picked up this Ruger P89 off of GB for $100 w/2mags a while back. It was BEAT cosmetically. Functioned just fine although I did put a new recoil spring into it. Donno where it was in service but they were rough on it.

I got bored and tore it all down and did a full restifacation on it.

I blasted the frame and slide with crushed glass. Then Brushed finished the machined parts of the slide. Left rest of slide in the matte finish and mirror polished the barrel and chamber. Polished all the other slide tidbits. I'll probably get some wood grips for it in the near future. I left mags alone because they function perfectly.

I powdercoated the frame with RAL's Cast iron powdercoat that I had left over from Powdercoating some Bullets. Didn't take too long to finish this project and the old workhorse looks a bunch better. I have $150 into it with purchase price, transfer and some other little stuff. I've ran the tar out of it since rehashing it.

It's a Sweet Big ol tank!

Nice work, looks better than factory!

Good to see some love for the P series, the Rodney Dangerfield of auto pistols.:D

That looks like a fun project & it turned out well. There are some P-series proponents but you are right they don't get much respect. Ruger P-series pistols aren't the kind of thing most people show off to their friends but they might be the last thing an attacker sees. They tend to work & work well.

Great restoration work! Looks better than new! Love the mirror polish job and the powdercoat finish!

The "Before" photo makes me think it was somebody's trunk gun; as in throw it in the trunk and then forgot all about it!

Great price! I have three P-series pistols that I've bought in the past year or two. I think they ranged in price from the most beat-up at $149 to one that was all but pristine for around $225. Getting a well-made functional pistol like that for $100 is a steal. You've done great work on it, too.

Mine have so-so triggers, but they go bang every time and I can shoot them as well any other average service pistol. IMHO they are one of the best deals out there right now.

This is my P89:

With wood grips those guns may be a lot more visually appealing. I’m not sure why the bottom of the grip was made the way it was either, but if you could make it a slabside the grip portion of the frame and put pretty wood on it I think you might actually end up with a good looking gun. Too much work for the aesthetics, but would be much more appealing.

Great job, bringing that P gun back to life. I had a P89, regret selling it, so I bought a P94 to replace it. I've had such good luck with my Ruger Pseries guns. They are heavy, large, bulky, have mediocre triggers, but damn are they reliable. and super affordable. Grease up the aluminum frame rails....they like to run wet from my experience. Happy shooting! Happy new year

Thanks all! It was a fun little project bring it back. It a pretty decent runner and its seems to be pretty dang accurate as it is. I like these old Duty tanks. I should buy more.
