I would like to get the cylinder throats bored out on my Ruger Vaquero 45 Colts to .4525 (WHY DOES RUGER INSIST ON MAKING THEM .450 TO .451?).

Unfortunately even though I live in Oklahoma City I wouldn't trust the three gunsmiths I've dealt with here to do the job.

Please recommend a gunsmith to which I could send the cylinder's for boring and whether or not your experience with them is direct or 2nd hand.

Thanks

Standing Wolf, are you saying that QC is a problem with Ruger? I've been reading more and greater complaints about Ruger, from metallurgy to RKBA stuff, but it's the first time I read about QC...

If you only have one revolver to fix, find a good 'smith and have him do it. If you're like me, Brownells sells a reamer kit (roughly $150)that will allow you to do it yourself.

I sent two cylinders to http://www.cylindersmith.com/

He did great work, and I can chamber 300 gr. loads in my gun now. The groups tightened up considerably.

Ruger says that .450 +- a few thouanths (usually minus) is in spec. I believe that they used to make them oversized back in the day, and everyone complained so now they went to the other extreme and they are undersized.

The most important thing to remember is that the bore must be smaller than the throat size.

I just had 45throatdoctor do my Ruger Blackhawk within the last month. I was happy with it. Turn around time was fantastic.
I did some really informal accuracy work with it after the throat work and firelapping it. I shot some very nice groups but am truthfully unsure if they are better than before the work since I was using a different load.
Leading is not as bad, but still present with commercially cast, bevel based bullets.
