Bought a TC Pro Hunter

I like shooting my 500 S&W revolver so well that I've now bought a rifle to fire the same ammo. I picked up a Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter with the Flex Tech stock and should have the 500 S&W Katahdin barrel for it by Thursday.

You should have seen the girlfriends face when I bought a rifle with no barrel. LOL Guess the Pro Hunter pistol stock and barrel are next on my list...

You bought a fine rifle. I purchased mine with the front stuffer barrel 209x50 and since then added a .300 win, .270 win, .308 win and 22-250 rem barrels to it. The only thing I cant do is put a pistol grip on it. Unless I have been fed a heaping load of crap. Every gunsmith I have talked to and even T/C customer service says that they changed the design of the encore rifles that they cannot except a pistol grip.
If you do figure out a way send my a PM because I have not been able to.

One of us has been fed something because I phoned TC specifically to ask about converting the Encore Pro Hunter to a pistol and was told that I could. Now maybe the older Contender pistol butt will not fit the Pro Hunter receiver or some such thing,,, but there is a Pro Hunter pistol on their website.

Butch I tried to call T/C a 1/2 hour ago but they were already closed. If I get a chance I may call them again tommorow. Anyway when I orginally talked with them a 1 1/2 years ago or so. I had called about a question with the muzzle loader barrel. I kept getting a lot of fouling around the breech face where the barrel locks up with the frame. I turned out to be one of the o rings in that speed breech was cracked and not sealing. While I was talking with the gentlemen i brought up wanting to put a 7mm 08 barrel on this frame in the handgun configuration. He told me you could do that with the old contenders. The new encores something to do with statue blah blah blah. You were able to buy the pistol frame and convert it to rifle but you could not buy the rifle frame and convert it to a pistol.
I hope that I am in the wrong here because boy do I have plans. Although I would owe Dr. Tad a apology.

One interesting twist is that when I bought my rifle, it had to be run like a pistol...

Cool, write it up when the barrel gets here! Be intresting to see what the difference between a pistol 500S&W and a rifle velocitys are......if you have a cronograph.

So I lied

I just got off of the phone with Darleen Small with T/C she informed me that you can in fact put a pistol grip and fore-end on the pro-hunter rifle. I am glad that I called because my conversation a year or so ago this was not a option. Now to decide which caliber to order. Still thinking 7mm-08 any thoughts? I purchased a contender a couple weeks ago in 35 rem.

Were you ever able to chrono the two barrels? I have the 500 S&W 15" pistol barrel and was thinkin on getting the 500 katahdin barrel.

I have not but plan to when time permits. Unfortunately, I can't shoot these things just anywhere...
