Went out yesterday with my girlfriend's family for the fourth to do some skeet shooting and other Fourth of July celebrations, and I brought my Remington out to try out the new black (all I've used until now has been Pyrodex and 777). I likey. I think I may have gotten at least one other person hooked on black powder. Hehe.:D

If you can get it, it's the right stuff. I have to drive 100 miles, so I use my stash sparingly. But, it's worth it when I do.

mykeal, how come you don't mail order BP? I get mine 10lbs at a time.

Old age.

Typically it kind of goes like this: I notice that I'm a little low on real black powder and make a mental note to pick some up the next time I'm down south on errands - it's not worth a special trip just for that, and after all, I have SOME left. Having made the mental note, I convince myself not to spend the money on a mail order (even though, at 10 lbs, it would be cheaper even with the hazmat fee - I never said I was brilliant) because I'm going to go down there soon anyway, perhaps. Now, having made the mental note, I promptly forget it so that when I actually do go south, I forget to buy some. Then I go shooting and use up the real bp. Next time I'm rounding up stuff to go shooting, I find I'm out of bp and stop by the local shop; all they stock is bp substitute, and 777 is my faux bp of choice, so I buy a bunch of it cause I gotta have something, and it's too late to drive down south just for some real stuff. I shoot that stuff for a while, then I notice that I'm low (or out of) real bp, make a mental note, etc. etc. etc.

All I use.

I've got a percussion .50 and a flint .36 and only use GOEX. Flints don't take well to immitation BP and I see no point in keeping two powders around. I use 75gr FFFg in the .50 and 40gr FFFg in the .36. I smile when I get a cloud of white smoke and a tree rat falls into the leaves.

I agree with a previous poster, 3F is the best all around powder as it works well for flinters of any caliber as primer and main charge. I use GOEX brand.
