For all those who tout economy knives utility and you who savor the sublime here ya go:
$29.95 to $2000 Bowies
Featuring my new early 60s Western Bowie which I paid about $100 shipped (second from right)
The first one on right is a $29.95 Frost Cutlery special. It sleeps out side and gets thrown ! It obviously is some sort of low grade stainless and it gets reasonably sharp to cut errant plants in walk ways.
The bottom bowie is my recent Western Bowie which is some grainy old timey steel .165" thick so it is a slicer now I brought the blade to 400 grit. The balance is very nicemaking the plywood handled Frost feel like a club
Now for the high end stuff we have the 11" Fowler on the right forged for me at a very reasonable $450 to my specs. The center is a huge and wonderful Randall Smithsonian Bowie from the mid 70s when Bo still made sure everything that left the shop was perfect! It is 3/8" thick x 12" and WIDE!
The left modern Bowie is my Mad Dog Sitka , the best one he ever made it is a little more than 10" and 1/4" thick but featherlight from his flat grind. It is fast but still can chop about like the chunkier and longer Fowler. It would sell for about $2000 on ebay I believe.
