So I have the opportunity to purchase a Browning BPS in 12 Ga 3" with a Fixed Modified Choke for 300 + shipping. The catch is that there's a small bulge about 19" from the chamber. Can you guys give me some ideas on how to further bump the price down? i.e. Will the bulge affect patterning? Or that the scuffs on the stock lower the price.. or that it's not a invector plus barrel and the value decreases?
Thanks guys.
PS. Will invector plus barrels fit this bps?
Here is what the seller told me:

i took it to two gunsmiths, both told me it was nothing to worry about, as far as safety goes. it isn't rust or pitting, it is basically a miniscule bulge. not sure of the round count, have cycled shells through it, but haven't fired it. cycles and feeds smoothly, stock is very nice, cut checkering, couple of minor scuffs.

Even though that small bulge probably won't affect patterns, I probably would pass on paying $300. I know you can't interchange 3" and 3.5" barrels, invector or INV.+ shouldn't be a problem as long as they are 3". Definitely not worth paying $300 and buying a new barrel.

okay thanks guys. what is a good going price for a decent condition bps like the one above then?

I agree with the above posts. By the time you bought the gun and another barrel, you could have bought a new gun. Now if you could pick it up for $200-$225 and shoot it like it is, that may be another question.

Looks like you already have the idea's in how to bump down the price. There is a proper way to grade a firearm, I would suggest looking at the blue book value of guns or something like it to get a starting point for price.

The barrel is bulged, the bluing is worn, the trigger guard is scratched up, and the stock is dinged up with scratches. Those are not things that will polish out or go away. Yes you could fix them or just leave them as is but that definitely lowers the value and if the seller can't see that let him keep it and you can buy one in better shape elsewhere.

As for the barrel, weather the bulge affects the pattern or not, in my mind the barrel is ruined. I'm not sure if the fixed choke affects value but I would want a screw in choke or different barrels.

FYI the BPS uses invector chokes not invector plus. The invector chokes are interchangeable with Mossberg's accu-chokes and Winchester's Win-chokes.

Just give it a miss. Bulgy barrels are a no go with me. Browning replacement barrels are bloody expensive. Unless you can talk them down to $175-ish,, and have the barrel cut back, I'd say pass. There are other fish in the sea.

for sure 175 is the tops. a barrel bulge is serious business. would be a cool hd project at 175 though to cut back, since youre canadian (if i recall correctly) you can go the extra mile in that regard.
