Hello,

Thanks for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company.

For Starbucks, the safety of our customers and partners is a paramount concern. We will continue to adhere closely to local, state and federal laws and the counsel of law enforcement regarding this issue. We have existing security protocols in place to handle situations related to safety in our stores.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

Warm Regards,

Yup, I got about the same thing back.

Has anyone noticed that this response could also be sent to a Pro-Brady message as well? Makes me curious, but as long as they continue their current policy I will hold them in good favor.

This is what I got back today.

Hello,
Thanks for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company.

We recognize that there is significant and genuine passion surrounding the issue of open carry weapons laws. Advocacy groups from both sides of this issue have chosen to use Starbucks as a way to draw attention to their positions.

While we deeply respect the views of all our customers, Starbucks long-standing approach to this issue remains unchanged. We comply with local laws and statutes in all the communities we serve. In this case, 43 of the 50 U.S. states have open carry weapon laws. Where these laws don't exist, we comply with laws that prohibit the open carrying of weapons. The political, policy and legal debates around these issues belong in the legislatures and courts, not in our stores.

At the same time, we have a security protocol for any threatening situation that might occur in our stores. Partners are trained to call law enforcement as situations arise. We will continuously review our procedures to ensure the highest safety guidelines are in place and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement.

We have examined this issue through the lens of partner (employee) and customer safety. Were we to adopt a policy different from local laws allowing open carry, we would be forced to require our partners to ask law abiding customers to leave our stores, putting our partners in an unfair and potentially unsafe position.

As the public debate continues, we are asking all interested parties to refrain from putting Starbucks or our partners into the middle of this divisive issue. As a company, we are extremely sensitive to the issue of gun violence in our society. Our Starbucks family knows all too well the dangers that exist when guns are used irresponsibly and illegally. Without minimizing this unfortunate reality, we believe that supporting local laws is the right way for us to ensure a safe environment for both partners and customers.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

Warm Regards,

Alyssa R.

I just wasted a half hour of my life on that damn brady site and I'm sick to hear the lies they put out? Has anyone in the brady bunch ever even held a gun? Shot one? I mean do they think the bad guys will just lay down there guns if there bans get passed? I for one am not looking forward to becoming a "bad guy". Anyways it makes me sick.

Here's a specific action plan for this issue:

1. Go to the Starbuck's site, and create an account: Here is a link to a page for creating an account.

2. Go to their forums, and locate the topic "Social Responsibiity."

Select it, and scroll through comments as needed to get to one of the "no guns" postings.

3. Simply vote "thumbs down" on any of the antigun posts.

IMO--at this point in this action by the Brady Bunch, we need to show disapproval of these posters' antigun statements more than we need to argue the merits of their demand. Starbucks is already taking a neutral stance, so we can show support for that stance by disapproving of the antigun stance.

We don't need to bring the anti / pro discussion onto their site.

Have at it, gang.

I wish the Starbucks in my area served their lunch sandwiches. I'd love to give them some business because of this, but I don't drink coffee nor eat pastry-type items.

If you have a facebook, make sure to go to Starbucks and post a thank-you on their wall. You should have seen it when media scrutiny was at it's peak. There is also a group called "I support Starbucks for recognizing the right to defend myself" you can join.

I'll be stopping into the local establishment tomorrow, buy something and let them know why I am. Starbucks needs to be fully aware that their position will not hurt their business but help it.

I know the open carry is a California thing, but

How successful was the Brady Campaign campaign against the "Gunshine State" of Florida (Brady operatives at airports passing out warning fliers to tourists about the dangers of the "Shoot the Avon Lady" law)?
