I stumbled on quite a bit of .45 brass out in the NM desert a couple of years back, and it looked at least as bad as the brass rondog showed. I cleaned it up with SS pins and still use it today. The alkaline soil in the desert will darken brass pretty fast and the blowing sand will etch it a bit and make it feel rough, but it still cleans up and shoots fine. As noted, look out for the spiders.
