Well I have been kicking around the idea of an AR for years. There have always been too many options and the question of being able to justify my needing/wanting one. Well today I justified it. After sitting on a stripped lower for some time I finally picked out the upper that I could justify. It is 20" A3 upper target crown in 6.8. I ordered free float aluminum hand guards with swivel stud and low profile gas block. I got it from model 1 sales who are pretty close to my home town so I expect to see it with in the next week. It will be by back up / new deer coyote and hog gun. I will post pictures as soon as I complete build. Do you have any recomendations on must have accessories, remember it is going to be hunting rig?

One big free one.

Go to Brownells.com, and click yourself the free AR-15 catalog. I haven't started building yet, but that's a whole lot of stuff you never knew you needed until you saw it in there. I bought a handful of cleaning supplies for my issue rifle, they gave me 15% off for being in the military, and threw in a master catalog for free.

And don't get me started on the 1911 catalog.

Sweet thank you sir. I will go there tonight. My buddy always checks it out but I haven't yet and don't know why.

I'm glad I kept my first build simple. Nothing outrageous, just a rifle that worked. And I mean worked every time. Even with the best of parts, it can be a challenge sometimes.
I now have five I built myself, each have worn dozens of different parts and accessories as fast as I can put them on and take them off. That first rifle taught me how to make them all work.

After years of regret for saying goodbye to my trusty Colt and never really getting the financial momentum up to buy another, I have decided to build one of my own. This time, I'm leaving the world of the full length A2 for the world of the handy M4 Carbine. It will begin it's life as an Anvil Arms lower - custom engraved with the membership logo from another group I belong to.

After much searching and research, I decided who better to build my upper than Jon at Anvil? So, the rest is now searching for various other goodies and chomping at the bit for the first trigger pull...I still have a safe full of AR-15/M-16 mags, so life will be good.....

A printout of the assembly instructions from ARFCOM on the table while you're working. I liked the "taped Vise-Grips" method of installing roll pins.

Here's a link that will take you there.

Be sure that your sighting system will work for you in your hunting terrain. A match rear aperture in deep woods, for example, ain't it. You can probably guess how I know this.

I wouldn't worry about accessories other than a nice trigger, some mags, and ammo...of course that is assuming you are going to be shooting it :)

My KISS build. Everything I need, nothing I don't:

I built my first, and it is the best shooting rifle I have ever shot. With A2 sights I can shoot under .5" @ 100 yards using Black Hills Blue Box 55 grain soft point in .223.

Yesterday I took her to the range, and after about 6 shots @ 100 yards for adjusting windage. I put 20 round in a whole about 1/4" round. I could barely put my pointy finger in the whole.:D
